It was an outstanding initial visit, as everything about Scissors and Scotch met or exceeded my expectations! I was thrilled with Emily's service. She took our chat and immediately translated it into a great cut. She is highly professional, incredibly talented, and kind. Since it was my first visit, she asked a lot of questions and executed them exceptionally well. The whole place worked well, as Ciara greeted me kindly and answered all of my questions that came with a first visit. It's cool decor, and their hours are very flexible. Their pricing is highly competitive and decidedly lower than major markets' costs. I don't drink alcohol, or else I'd like it even more due to their liquor offerings. My boyfriend went in for a style and cut. To our surprise they don't straighten hair ? My boyfriend naturally has curly hair but he likes it straight even after telling his stylist she said they don't have a flat iron. So he left with wet curly hair. I was wondering if that's the case couldn't she use a blow dryer to diffuse his curly hair atleast ? I'm not sure maybe I misunderstood what "styling" meant . She also shaved the back of his neck ! Do NOT go to Jeanie. She absolutely does not listen to what you want, even with extensive direction/detail prior. She made assumptions and did her own thing. I've never been more disappointed in lack of listening to what the customer wanted. read more

Love the west Des Moines location and the Ankeny. Great places to get a haircut and a drink. You get one complimentary drink with a cut but if you want more the prices are not bad at all. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing and the staff are friendly. The haircuts are not rushed and the whole experience is relaxing and enjoyable like a day at the spa for a lady I assume. read more

I have visited Scissors and Scotch three times in the past couple months. The first was with Tiana. She did an amazing job on my hair. Maybe the best haircut I have ever received. She was not available the next two times, so I opted to use whoever was available. Bad idea. First was with Sammie. Rushed, bad haircut. She left really long hairs around my ears and instead of a low fade like we discussed, she gave me a high and tight. The last time was with Ashley. We had just discussed a low fade and she immediately takes the clippers and cuts all the way up. The blend was choppy and she charged me $70 for a haircut and to line up my beard on my face. There might be other good barbers, besides Tiana, at this location. But for the past two cuts, I could have gotten a better haircut for half the price at Knockouts or even Sportsclips. read more

Went there today for the first time. It was an awful experience. The hairstylist was like 19 and had a ring in her nose. She could not have been less friendly and showed zero interest in me or giving me a decent haircut. The whole thing was rushed and wrong. Forget the bar, the free drink nobody asks for, the leather chairs and the "cool" male decor...then when checking out the guy at the bar has the audacity to ask me to leave her a tip...my barber downtown Ankeny does twice as good of job at half the price and he acts like he wants me there. Scissors & Scotch you botched it and I won't be back. read more
