I began taking my German shepherd, Kirra, to Dr. Fowler in Dec 2012 when she was diagnosed with an…read moreaggressive form of cancer, hemangiosarcoma. Dr. Fowler was highly recommended by a friend who had taken her dog who has cancer as well. Dr. Fowler began with an assessment with all Kirra's current records, xrays, lab reports, etc from conventional vets. She began with creating a diet based around her cancer known as the "cancer diet". It was made of foods that would aid her condition and I that I could make easily at home. Next, she put my dog on certain Chinese herbs that were based around her cancer and what she was lacking (she had become anemic). Kirra was a fussy eater and could sniff out any medicine but Dr. Fowler always had a solution for this! She was always on hand for any questions (and trust me I had MANY). Along with the diet and herbs we did acupuncture and B12 shots on Kirra. Her office was warm and welcoming. The acupuncture treatments would take 30 minutes to an hour and as Kirra would lie there relaxed, Dr. Fowler and I would chat and she would calm me and reassure me with Kirra's treatment, condition and overall health. Kirra was given weeks to months by Auburn Veterinary Hospital. I feel that with Dr. Fowler's diet, herbs, and acupuncture Kirra had a happy and lively 3 months. She was given a grime diagnosis by conventional vets and treated with chemotherapy. Dr Fowler helped treat Kirra's side effects from chemo with acupuncture and it worked, instantly. Kirra once walked in to her office and she had not eaten in 2 days. Dr Fowler tried giving her treats. No go. After hitting appetite stimulant points on Kirra with acupuncture, right after she ate up all the treats and her appetite came back. Unfortunately with all the treatment with conventional and holistic medicine, the inevitable happened and Kirra began to hemorrhage. All I wanted was for my baby to be comfortable and home when the time came. Dr. Fowler drove an hour and a half to my house and ended my baby's suffering. She made it as peaceful as it could have been. I held her the whole time. Dr. Fowler then made all the arrangements for me and I had to do nothing which was so helpful at such a devastating time. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Fowler. I HIGHLY recommend her and her wonderful services. Since I had started seeing her for Kirra I have recommended her to all my friends and coworkers who have loved animals from cats to horses. She has the BEST bedside manner and truly wants the best for you and your beloved pet. She will be honest with you and that is sometimes hard to hear but it is in the best interest of your beloved pet. Thank you Dr Fowler for making a devastating event peaceful, calm and comforting. She was able to end my baby's suffering so compassionately. Words can not express my gratitude and I am forever grateful. The only reason why I didn't was because someone I know highly recommended it. First of all, appointments can only be booked months in advance. This gives the impression that they are very good and therefore always booked; however, when they call back a week later or so and adjust it, it is clear that they are just disorganized. Everything is overpriced. Prices are not provided up-front. OTC medication is about 40% marked-up. They itemize everything and tack it on a service, even when it wasn't requested. Our first and last appointment was unbelievable! We dropped off our elderly pup for a teeth cleaning. We had the first appointment of the day, which was still late enough for it to impact my work schedule. I arrived to a locked facility. 5 minutes later, the first employee arrived. 10 minutes later, the open the door and give me the paperwork to sign which outlines the price--entirely based on how many teeth they remove during the cleaning. Feeling cornered, I sign the form and drop off my dog. Hours later we get a call to pick him up. When we arrive they are helping several customers. I notice the price and ask how many teeth we're removed, which I was told was 8. This is a very old dog, who maybe had 16 teeth going into the appointment, so I joking say "wow, I didn't realize he had that many when I dropped him off" and saw the horror in her face as I realize she just said a number at random cause she had no clue about my dog or his procedure. I add on some flee/tick medicine, pay, and leave. After reviewing the bill I found no less than 16 line-items for a teeth cleaning. This included nail clipping, which in addition to it not being asked for, his nails literally came back sharper than when we was dropped off. Days later, we get a call asking if I have my dogs medicine. It turns out, they gave us someone else's anti-itch medication instead of pain killer. They apologized for the mistake, and insisted that something like this doesn't happen there normally. The reality is, I wouldn't take my dog back if they paid me.

Throughout her life, they were there for everything, from routine checkups and vaccinations to urgent situations that required same-day treatment. No matter what she needed, they consistently provided prompt, knowledgeable, and compassionate care. Storm was the sweetest cat, but she definitely gave them a hard time. The staff were endlessly patient with her and somehow managed to keep her calm enough to limit her protests to meowing, growling, and "angrily eating Churus." The ladies at the front desk have always been kind and welcoming, and the technicians consistently took the time to explain treatment plans, medications, and recommendations so that I always felt informed and supported. As Storm entered her senior years and developed health issues, including hyperthyroidism, the team helped us manage her conditions and maintain her quality of life for as long as possible. Their guidance, monitoring, and dedication allowed her to enjoy many joyful years that we might not otherwise have had together. They never treated her like just another patient. They recognized her well and were happy to see her. And when it was finally time to say goodbye, they were extraordinary. I had hoped to let her go at home, but due to the rapid progression of brain cancer and the lack of availability for an at-home appointment, Crossroads was there when we needed them most. They provided the most intentional and compassionate end-of-life care I could have hoped for. It never felt like a "scary day at the vet." Instead, it felt more like hospice care for a beloved family member, carried out with love, dignity, and respect. They also created a beautiful keepsake with Storm's paw prints and a place for her photo, and we received a card signed by the entire staff offering condolences and sharing kind words about her. Those gestures meant more to me than I can express and were a reflection of how deeply the staff cares for both their patients and their families. Dr. Tovrea and Dr. King are exceptional veterinarians who have earned my complete trust. They cared for Storm throughout her long life and helped guide my partner, Hayden, and me through one of the hardest days a pet owner can possibly imagine. In fact, they recently connected us with a beautiful baby boy kitten who needed a home and turns out to be the perfect addition to our family.
