Live in Hamburg, but American expat. Have been to this food venue many times, especially the Sunday…read moreBrunches (reservations a MUST and well in advance for special Sundays, as Mother s Day) Much prefer the Brunch to the evening daily menu. As another review indicates, it is seasonal and regional fare. NOT being a fish person, the menu is, for me, far too German and regional. BUT the food I have ordered was fine to excellent. It is that this portion of the menu is small. As well, personal taste: I do believe the addition of the hotel / convention center destroys the original restaurant and halls. Not only the view, but also the original concept.

i had the namesake soup. so good. came with bread. completely satisfied…read more my friend had the argentine rump steak with onions & potatoes - she said it was literally THE BEST MEAL OF HER LIFE. let's just put it this way, she's a small girl (4'9), finished the whole thing & didn't eat another thing for 24 hours. she just couldn't stop. it was that good. really cute & homey inside. i highly recommend this place. plus it's near the alster & on the colonnade. i WILL come back here.

The black haired waitress is among the rudest waitresses if not the rudest that I have ever met: she was so bad that I think she screwed with our group of four entire order because she despises Americans. I ordered the Labskous dish, but she brought some goulash dish and insisted that it was what I had ordered and claimed that Labskous was not even on the menu. She then abruptly left and did not return or deal with the wrong order- we hear her complaining to the gentleman behind the bar about my order. The fish dish we ordered was unevenly cooked and had raw fish sections as well as the Shnitzel- it had raw bloody sections as well. A member of our party became ill over the raw food and spent awhile in the restaurant toilet. It was raining and the porcelain floor tiles were so slippery there was almost a slip and fall accident. After insisting I wanted the Labskous dish she brought it after everyone had finished the edible part, ie cooked through, part of their respective meals. She smirked at me when I did not finish the Labskous as it too was not cooked through. The potato pancakes had powdered sugar on them which was unexpected and gross but maybe that is a German thing. She charged for the goulash which was uneaten and not ordered. The rest of my party was very upset with this choice of restaurant and how poorly we were treated. Here is photo of raw Schnitzel.
