Then there were the simple parts that had been marked up nearly 300% compared to standard retail prices. Our advice: Get multiple bids, insist on clear written details about labor, equipment, and materials, and don't rely solely on verbal assurances--otherwise, you risk paying for work and materials you didn't actually receive. I do not remember his name, but he was very nice, polite, and honest. He replaced the air filter - citing it as the number one cause of heater issues, and also stated that my flame sensor should be replaced soon, but it should last at LEAST another year. Less than 2 months later, I wake up to find out that it is 17 degrees outside and my heater has stopped working. Again. The filter was brand new, but I put in a new one anyways. Nothing. I called 1st Action again, leaving messages on BOTH the company phone and the "emergency after-hours" phone. I did not receive a call back that day at all. The next morning, the heater is still out, and it's 18 degrees outside. I finally received a call back from a woman named Brenda, and her first words come out in an insulting tone saying "Well I'm calling you back *again* to find out if the heater is working yet.....??" When I tell her that nobody called me back, she begins to argue with me, stating that the actual company owner called me directly. There were absolutely NO RECORDS OF MISSED CALLS on my phone. So as she's accusing me of lying about the owner calling me back, I've lost faith in the company already, and just ask for the part number to replace it myself. Brenda then states that she has no information on that, and then states "You're lucky we charged you so little last time." .............................. Ummmm, excuse me? Her tone of voice was demeaning, as if she was running a charity and I got a discount. I paid the same price as everyone else, plus an additional $30 for an air filter that I could have bought for $5 off Amazon. There was literally NO reason for her tone of voice, or even the statement itself.... The owner Brandon then calls me back, stating that he accidentally called the wrong number yesterday. OK.... human error, I get that. But in order to come out, he quotes basically the exact same price, actually $6 higher than the last visit to replace the flame sensor. And he quotes me this price after "removing the service fee," because I asked about whether this should have just been done last time to begin with. So already frustrated, I just ask him for the part number, or even to buy the part off him, but he lectures me about how they are a for-profit business only. A simple "I'm sorry I don't have that info." would have sufficed instead of an entire 10 MINUTE lecture about fuel and overhead and the amount of driving time to get to the store to get the part.... (10 minute drive tops) Soooo.... yes. I understand that EVERY service company is for-profit. That isn't even my issue. It's the fact that the receptionist Brenda talked down at me as if they had done me a favor less than 2 months ago.... no apology or reason for her tone of voice. The Owner Brandon calls me on the 2nd day of no heat stating that he called the wrong number with no apology... and then proceeds to lecture me about being for-profit? And that not only is that first tech no longer with the company, but they also offer ZERO warranty on any of their work. Less than 2 months, remember... I ended up finding the exact part off Amazon. A PACK of 3 for $8.99 overnighted for free. It took 5 minutes to replace. The first tech 2 months ago was great, but he's not even there anymore. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.... not only are they EXTREMELY rude, but there's apparently ZERO NO guarantee on their work anyways, as stated by the owner Brandon!! Hire this company at your risk. Makes me wonder why the original tech isn't working there anymore. Was he too honest and tried saving customers money from inflated charges?
