Don't make the mistake I did and wander around in circles wasting precious time where you could have been climbing! Cool, now that that's over with... My hometown gym is Dogpatch Boulders in SF, and I routinely complain about how Dogpatch has "ruined" other climbing gyms for me because bouldering just isn't as fun anywhere else. So when my coworker described FLASHH as "like Dogpatch," I was skeptical. Turns out he was right! The problems here are challenging, with a wide variety of holds and routes. There's plenty of space, and a range of route heights as well. Problems tend to involve fewer, larger holds and more reach and flexible movement than I'm used to, which was surprisingly fun rather than frustrating (given my short height). Routes are rated on the Fontainebleau scale, typical in Europe, rather than the V scale. I have yet to figure out the exact conversion, but regardless there's plenty of variety in problems to keep climbers at all levels interested. Finally, the most important question: How to pronounce the name of this place? Is the second "H" silent? Guess I'll have to go back and ask!

There's good problem variety, both in style and in difficulty, and at the end of the night I was going home because I was beat, not because I was bored. Having only been there once, I can't say how well they handle problem rotation, but considering the attention paid to everything else (and the size of the place), I feel comfortable assuming they do a good job. Despite having other climbing gyms closer, this is the place I'll be getting a membership to. The only downside is that it was a seriously hot night and the fans were not at all keeping up. I imagine most of the time this isn't a problem, but it was basically a sauna.

My wife and I visited Kletterwald on a Saturday. The place is reachable from the Meinendorfer Weg U…read morebahn station. The entrace to Kletterwald is just opposite to the U bahn station. One needs to walk a little inside to find it. We had bought tickets online, so at the shop, I just had to buy a pair of gloves (€3). A mask must be worn at the shop. They also provide a locker free of charge but with a €5 refundable deposit. There are portable toilets near the back of the park next to the car parking lot. The staff were very friendly and spoke English. They helped us wear the harness and gave us instructions. They also gave us the helmets. We didn't need to wear masks while doing the courses. They kindly showed us the way to course 1. We did courses 1, 2 and 4. Courses 3 and 5 were available only in the presence of an instructor. Course 1 and 2 have a zip line at the end. Course 4 does not have it; there's a simple wooden staircase at the end. Overall it was easy and doable. I struggled a bit on one of the bridges in course 4. It needed a lot of upper body strength. We finished course 4 and were too tired to go for course 6. We returned back to the shop area and returned our harnesses and helmets. We emptied our locker and bought some ice cream in the hot summer weather at the shop. We spent about 2 hours at the place. Overall it was a fun experience and we'd love to visit Kletterwald again!

Pretty cool bouldering gym costing 9.50 for the day. You can rent shoes for 3 euros on top of that…read more Not bad at all. The gym is quite good. Lots of different routes of varying difficulties. If it is your first time at the gym ensure to check the colour coding of the difficulties. If i recall right green was hard, white easy and yellow were in the middle but as high as I could go. There are also rings handling on strings that you can play with. In the background they have also got some soothing reggae music playing. That goes with the general feel and vibe of this place. Keep it cool and relaxed. When we got there around 2 on a Sunday there were some people and it was good but from about 3:40 to 4 when we left, the place suddenly got way overcrowded. It may be worth avoiding such times if you wanna boulder on lots of routes

I knew it was going to be small just from the area, but I didn't realize *how* small. You're almost always on top of someone or in someone's way, and though everyone was friendly about it, it definitely becomes an annoyance very quickly. I will say a couple of the photos here are super impressive in how they make the space look bigger. I had to stare at a few of them just to try to figure out how the hell they were taken. Anyway, having cut my teeth climbing in a converted barn, I'm not really looking for polish when it comes to a climbing gym. However, when the shabbiness continues into the problem setting, that's when you'll lose me. And here, I just wasn't impressed. There were problems where you couldn't differentiate the holds for Problem A and Problem B as they intertwined, problems that felt lazily set, and too many that just seemed gimmicky. At the end of the day, it's a climbing gym, so if you're nearby, short on time, and in need of a fix, it'll do. But given my choice, I'll hit up some of the other gyms in the area as a regular. It's worth the extra commute.
