I am *still* thinking about the meal I enjoyed at Malzraum a week ago. Visiting my daughter in…read moreMunich (she's fairly new there, hasn't had a lot of time to explore the area around where she lives), I did some research and found Malzraum. It was a convenient meet-in-the-middle place for both of us, with an appealing-sounding ambiance. Described as a "dive bar", it was nothing of the sort (at least by US standards). Cozy, warm, inviting, and a giant sheepdog under the corner table.
We were given a 4-top and proceeded to translate our way through the menu. She ordered chestnut soup, and when I saw "Tom Kha" soup on the menu it was a no-brainer. She also ordered the pork schnitzel, and I chose the burger. The soup came out and wow it was a generous portion. And SOOOOO delicious. I purposely didn't finish mine trying to save space for the burger, but honestly, I only had a single delicious bite of that gorgeous burger before I threw in the towel. She devoured the schnitzel and took home the burger for the next day.
All that, and great cocktails, too. The Moscow Mule gets two thumbs up!
Toward the end of our meal another couple was seated at the two empty seats of our table, which was not unpleasant.
The restaurant became quite crowded, and we remarked that it would be difficult for the server to get to us for anything else. It required moving a couple of chairs (and their people). That very efficient server also told us it was only his second day - we'd never have known.
Take Euros - no credit cards. Worth every penny for whatever you order. As another reviewer said, not overrun with tourists. This is one you shouldn't miss on your next trip to Munich.
