When I entered Top Shelf, I saw the coolers along the left side of the store. I immediately strolled over to that side of the store. As I walked along the coolers, I only saw beer. The coolers wrapped around the back of the store, too and I still only saw beer. I reversed my steps and looked again at all the coolers. Once again, I found no wine. As I was ready to exit the store, I stopped at the cashier and asked, "Do you not have chilled wine?" She said, "Yes, it's over here in the cooler." To my surprise, there was a single cooler on the right side of the store and it was filled with chilled wine and champagne. She lead me back to the cooler and talked about the variety of the other wines we passed. I found the perfect wine and it was cheaper than the store I normally buy my wine. I was impressed with the personalized customer service. The variety of merchandise and their pricing is also, impressive. I'd say, Top Shelf is, a Top Notch liquor store.

I really liked how the wine sections were organized with large ceiling signs, allowing us to focus on specific types and then narrow it down by price and ratings. And best of all you can pick a bottle, sit at the bar, and for (I think) a $6 corkage fee, have them serve it to you there. They also have some selections by the glass. You can order outside food for delivery there, and Cleveland-Heath (quite excellent in their own right) is literally next door. Still, might be fun if Bin 51 had a few snacks available... or perhaps even a cheese/meat/cracker tray... That notwithstanding, the wine selection is robust for a store of its size, and well thought out... and you can drink it there for much less dough than you'd pay for a bottle of the same stuff at a restaurant. They had 2 sessions for the wine tasting - the first hour was with the winemaker and after that, people were free to stop in to do the tasting at the own pace. It's a small space, so with people lingering after the first tasting, things were pretty cozy, but we found a spot to squeeze in at the bar. The bartender was very nice and got us through the tasting quickly. I would definitely come back to do another tasting again sometime or just order a glass of wine a la carte! Also a great place to stop if you need to pick up a bottle of wine for a party!
