Lots of jewelry and weapons on display, the building is easy to get around and setup sight beside a lovely park with lots of shady trees - many people outside enjoying picnics It was the perfect ending to our archaeological adventure to see the real Sky Disc, after learning about its discovery and a much richer history at the planetarium / museum, at the Arche Nebra in Nebra

On May 6th 2012, I went to the Landesmusuem fuer…read moreVorgeschichte in Halle and it is definitely worth a visit. I was especially interested in seeing the Pompeii exhibition. Before entering the museum I had to wait for a short amount of time as only groups of people were allowed in at a time. Once you enter the building it is very astonishing, it is four levels high and set up in a dim light. The exhibition was quite busy with many visitors, still there was enough space to look at each artifact. The exhibition described the eruption of the volcano Vesuv and gave a lot of background of the ancient roman life. The show focused on the everyday life of the Romans such as the housing, fights and politics. On display were videos, paintings, sculptures, pottery and dishes. There were also optional and free tour guides who were friendly and informative. The permanent exhibitions were on the Paleolithic period, Mesolithic period, Neolithic period and the early Bronze Age. Which were all set up beautifully with loads of interesting information but the highlight was without doubt the Pompeii exhibition. I would encourage everyone to visit the Landesmusuem in Halle.

Schloss Moritzburg had a lovely flower garden and house…read more Your ticket can cover the house or garden or both - we chose the house snow it's the end of summer and the roses have just about wrapped up their season There was an exhibit on the top floor of various baby strollers from all different time periods - it was pretty amusing The rooms were sparsely furnished but those that were, were lovely Plaques or signage explaining what the rooms or furnish were or the periods from which they came would have been nice but the little signage we did see was in German - if you are lucky like I am, your Mr is from Germany & can translate for you Worth a stop if in the area

From the owner: Am Wochenende des 6. und 7. Juli 2019 verabschiedete sich das Deutsche Optische Museum (D.O.M.) in…read moreeine mehrjährige Umbauphase zur vollkommenen Umgestaltung des Museums. Mit der Schließung des D.O.M. ab 08.07.2019 beginnen bauvorbereitende Maßnahmen, die nicht mit dem regulären Besucherverkehr vereinbar sind. Daran schließt sich die Kernsanierung des Hauses und die vollkommene Neugestaltung der Ausstellung an. Zukünftig werden optische Phänomene des Alltags und technisch genutzte optische Effekte in einer Erlebniswelt der Optik umfassend experimentell erlebbar gemacht. Dazu werden historische optische Instrumente und deren Einsatz zum Wissensgewinn ganzheitlich dargestellt und darüber hinaus stets aktuelle wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse vermittelt, um als Schaufenster der Optikforschung zu dienen. Das neue Museum soll an historischer Stätte im Zentrum der Stadt an die optischen Traditionen Jenas anknüpfen und vorhandene Bestände bewahren, wissenschaftlich erschließen und präsentieren. Die Wiedereröffnung des Deutschen Optischen Museums ist für das zweite Halbjahr 2026 geplant.
