The authentic Sky Disc of Nebra lives here at the Landesmuseum für Vorgeschichte ( Halle State…read moreMuseum of Prehistory ) This museum is filled with ancient burial pits and narratives around how various ancient peoples lived, worked and took care of their dead And in a small room on the second floor, is the Sky Disc and the story of how it was found, looted & stolen and eventually recovered. Lots of jewelry and weapons on display, the building is easy to get around and setup sight beside a lovely park with lots of shady trees - many people outside enjoying picnics It was the perfect ending to our archaeological adventure to see the real Sky Disc, after learning about its discovery and a much richer history at the planetarium / museum, at the Arche Nebra in Nebra

Before entering the museum I had to wait for a short amount of time as only groups of people were allowed in at a time. Once you enter the building it is very astonishing, it is four levels high and set up in a dim light. The exhibition was quite busy with many visitors, still there was enough space to look at each artifact. The exhibition described the eruption of the volcano Vesuv and gave a lot of background of the ancient roman life. The show focused on the everyday life of the Romans such as the housing, fights and politics. On display were videos, paintings, sculptures, pottery and dishes. There were also optional and free tour guides who were friendly and informative. The permanent exhibitions were on the Paleolithic period, Mesolithic period, Neolithic period and the early Bronze Age. Which were all set up beautifully with loads of interesting information but the highlight was without doubt the Pompeii exhibition. I would encourage everyone to visit the Landesmusuem in Halle.

How am I the first person to write a review on Yelp about the Stasi museum in Leipzig? Wow. Just…read morewow. It's amazing to learn the many layers of history a country has and we all know Germany is rich in history. The 20th century alone was just craziness. Who knew Leipzig was the epicenter of the German secret police? I sure didn't. When my friend took me here to explore the museum it was mind blowing. It's so unreal to think that this didn't happen that long ago and it was happening in my generation. Husbands told on Wives. Children told on parents. Neighbors told on neighbors. Located in the former Stasi headquarters (that's deep!), it's free to enter and you have the option to purchase an audio guide (recommended, unless you can read German). It's nice because it's self guided, so you can stay in each room as long as you want. Each room is different, with various scenes depicting Stasi Germany. I think my favorite things (if you can call it that) were the disguises they used. It's literally out of the movies. Fake mustaches, briefcases with wigs, powder, suglasses, anything. It's really fascinating and scary that this wasn't scripted. It was real life for people not that long ago. You can also go to the site where they executed and tortured victims. More good times. We skipped that. A definite must see if you you're in this part of the world.

I returned to this part of Germany to see this museum in particular and learned that Vladimir Putin served some time in Dresden and Leipzig. If you want to understand why those who lived under the Eastern Bloc are the way they are, then understand each of us are the sum total of our experiences. There was no trust on the part of the authorities.
