While we were browsing, she explained the difference between needlepoint lace and Bruges' original bobbin lace. Also, she told us a bit about the Rose of Bruges pattern. There is a good selection of products available. Not the cheapest, but the quality is good, and this is great if you would like to learn a bit more about what you're buying. Apparently they also run a lace-making school.

The ornaments and overall Christmas decor in here is nothing like I've ever seen. I ended up buying a couple of things pictures, the glass tree and snowman tea candle holder. Everything in the store is absolutely gorgeous so you can't go wrong. I think it's a tad pricey, but what do you expect at a higher end Christmas store and in a touristy spot? All of the employees were super kind and offered to help with different selections of ornaments and decor while shopping. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you have the time!

Items from street vendors are better quality! They either swapped items with broken or broke them wrapping, then refused to honor. Waste of time and money and they overcharge for everyrhing. They are looking to take tourist money and run! It's polished garbage and nothing more.

I scored the cutest little wooden mouse on a spring and a hand knitted bear in a lovely rose color. The shopkeeper was friendly and helpful and the prices were reasonable (especially for a tourist area). There were some lovely marionette style puppets that piqued my interest. Maybe next time.

Such an impressive store! Last night our nice camera got bumped off a dresser in the hotel room…read moreand fell right on the heavy lens, jamming the lens filter and cover so they couldn't be opened and we heard little pieces shaking inside. We figured the filter was broken but hoped the lens remained in tact. We found this store on google and headed over. It was about a half hour ride from where we are staying in the old town near the castle (though that was due to construction or traffic as we made it back in under 20 minutes.). We are traveling from the states and speak a little French and even less German, and no Dutch... not enough of anything to speak of camera parts. There were 3-4 workers in the store and the man who came to help us could speak English and was quick to understand the situation. He thought it did not seem very good but immediately went to work. He was able to break the lens cap off (which we told him we expected and was fine because we have an extra and needed to see what had happened anyway. ) While he worked, we looked around the store and they have all the best equipment you could ever need and offered options like rentals too. All the employees seemed friendly and helpful with the customers who came in. After about half an hour or so, he showed us what he had done. He got the lens cap off and the cleaned out every last shard of broken glass from the lens filter, though it was still jammed into the threads of the lens and will take a more significant repair job to get out. He knew we were there on travel and wanted to get back to exploring the city and now I have my camera to use again (a must for Ghent, which is one of the loveliest towns in all of Europe!). We asked how much it would be and he said it was no charge. We were shocked and so appreciative of the time and care he'd put in to helping us and I'm not sure if that's standard or not but we wanted to write a review as we would be very loyal customers if we lived here! Loeckx Auction House under the ownership of Peter Loeckx…read more I've purchased 4000 Euro artwork from them couple of month ago. The artwork arrived promptly via UPS from Belgium. The artwork was packaged in a wooden create, however the artwork arrived with a few damages not listed. I contacted Peter Loeckx and told him about my reservations about the artwork now that I see it will all the damages. Peter told me to find a restorer, get a quote and that he will reimburse me for the total cost of shipment of the artwork to and from the restoration company and the restoration costs. Upon receiving the quote for the restoration job Peter wired me the money. I am very pleased with Loeckx Auction House under the ownership of Peter Loeckx. I hope to do more shopping there.

Very, very beautiful pieces - not only from the host. And the 15th century furniture adds to the charm.

There are many lace shops in Bruges (though not as many as Chocolate shops) and I think we visited…read morethem all (Ahem!). While I admire the craft, they can all start looking the same. We decided to go and purchase here after checking many out .We couldn't get to see the one on Bal Street (highly recommended by travelers and websites) by the Lace Museum (closed) as it had just closed for lunch (What is up with so many Bruges shops closing for lunch) on a cold day and we did not want to wait. We ventured back to the Markt area as we had liked most of the items at Lace Jewel. The range of products and prices was amazing. My wife purchased several pieces in the mid-level price range. There were large pieces she liked better (I reminded her of the missed opportunities from our last trip to Belgium to no avail) but opted for smaller items for herself and to give as gifts, etc. The cost was surprisingly satisfactory considering the quality but can get very expensive for the larger items. The shop owners were very attentive and friendly, helping customers with questions and needs. From the time we went in to leaving there was a constant check out line of three to four which attests to the popularity of Lace Jewel. While that size line may not seem long, in a small crowded shop like this, it is impressive. So, if you can't get to the Bal Street location, don't fret because the quality, service and variety can be found here.
