Each month they have a different theme (recently was banned DEFA films from the DDR), along with a few newer films which you could get on DVD, but it wouldnt be the same experience (currently they are playing Berlin Calling a few times a week) so make sure to check out their website to see what is playing, as often you can find some gems here that you wouldnt have had the chance to see otherwise. This place is a non-profit and I think most of the people that work here do so on a volunteer basis. Tickets are 3.50, but you can pay up to 6 (everything above 3.50 is a donation)- so not only are tickets cheap but you can also feel good by supporting this place a bit too. In the lounge you can order a beer or a glass of wine and listen to what ever music they are spinning on the turntable before going in to the theater. The theater itself holds around 60 people and smallish screen and if the heat isnt on (only happened once when Ive been there), it can get rather cold. I dock this place one star only because of the bathrooms, which are outside and down in the basement of the next building, if its raining and cold it can be a pain.

This is one of the best small theaters I've been in. All of the seats were spacious and comfortable (including the couch-type seats), and in general everything was just nice. The screens I've seen have been big, and the projection, clear. The sound system left something to be desired, but wasn't actually bad. Queues proceede quick, although it can be full on weekends and public holidays. Tickets are not too cheap, we paid 16,5 eur for 3 balcony tickets (they are a bit more expensive). Two things to note: trailers of coming movies last at least 10-15 min, so don't panic if you're late and also female toilettes are hopelessly full after the movie. Some things never change! They also offer all English movies with German subtitles as well as in dubbed versions. The prices as very fair and they even have student discount. Als their slection beverages and snacks is very good and bit pricey but nothing to special but very solid, they have a restaurant next door which is not directly connected to the cinema. Passage Kino is a very nicely furnished old cinema. It is located at the city center of Hamburg and…read moreshows not only Hollywood movies but also ballet or documentaries. On the weekend it can become very crowded so make sure to reserve some tickets. The staff is always very nice and helpful. Once a year the Passage Kino takes part in the Hamburger Filmfest.
