Granted this was a Valentines Day delivery... My delivery driver was very pleasant and enthusiastic but the flowers reaked of cigarettes at first. It wore off throughout the day. 3 of the flowers had broken, I assume, during transit. The arrangement was beautiful, exactly what my husband had ordered. I propped a broken rose on some daisies to hold it up. My husband was a little disappointed in the chocolates he ordered with the flowers. It was a very small, but pretty, box of 8 chocolates. My birthday flowers arrived yesterday: my 61sr birthday. I was in South Haven. the flowers were left in the hot sun on my patio step. We arrived home at 8pm. they were wilted and the color combo of orange and red was concerning. their fall selections online look amazing. mine did not. I hope my son did not pay a lot. Beautiful. I needed funeral flowers. I ordered on Saturday for a Monday funeral. We wanted yellow roses. They didn't have many, but Jim the designer said he'd work his magic. He did. Everyone was totally impressed. The yellow roses were there but it was so much more. The abundance of flowers was amazing. My siblings and I wanted to send my mom flowers for her 70th birthday, but we selected different florists so she can receive multiple deliveries and make her feel that much more special. I went with Schafer's and my brother and sister went with Vandersalm's. Generally, I am not a fan of those standard stock arrangements from FTD/1800Flowers, etc. They are almost always disappointing. I prefer instead to set a budget and ask that they create a lovely arrangement. We gave Schafer's a cap of $100 to include taxes and delivery charges. They said they will do a bright arrangement. The end result was nice, but I was hoping for brighter colors to signify Spring/Summer, rather than a wintry look. Although our vase was "fuller" than my brother's, I wasn't as impressed with the end result as I was with what Vandersalm put together on his budget which was about $10 lower than mine. Photos submitted for comparison. So Schafer's is A-OK, therefore the 3 stars, but I will most likely go elsewhere in the future. read more

I made a last minute decision to get my mom a birthday bouquet....from the moment I set foot in the store, I was made to feel welcome and important. There weren't any yellow roses prepared, but the worker that assisted me was amazing. She found the roses, prepared a lovely bouquet, suggested a balloon (which I was thankful for, because I had planned to head to another store for that!!), and helped me to choose a couple other gifts to make the bouquet perfect. The prices were very reasonable. So many cases and flowers to choose from! I have never seen such an array of fresh cut flowers, bulb planters and potted plant arrangements, and in such good condition! I would HIGHLY recommend stopping in for an arrangement or gift. I would be confident if I was to order online, as well, after seeing the care and love put into these quality arrangements!! read more

I ordered flowers for my daughter and her college roommate for Valentine's Day. The woman who answered the phone was the designer, I gave her my budget and she said she would put something nice. Mistake. The bouquet for my daughter budget wise was around 30 which I thought was a decent amount and I said about 10 bucks for her roommate. Now, I buy a lot of flowera from local florists so I know what the pricing is normally. The roommates was one stem of Something, pink and withered and looked like it was dying with 2 Gerber daisies. looked terrible. My daughters looked like they just threw flowers together that were left over. Garbage. I spent a total of 70 plus bucks. Never again. read more

This is the BEST place in Kalamazoo to order flowers from! I lived in Portage until 2008 and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area but whenever I need to send flowers to anyone back home, I use Schafer's. Charlie is the BEST!! He always calls me to make sure they have the correct details for any order and always goes out of his way to help me. This place is AWESOME!!!! I had problems getting an order through with another floral company and ended up not being able to use them. I found Schafer's Flowers and ordered very late in the day (nearly 4:00pm) for my daughter-in-law's birthday and they were able to get the order delivered THAT day, so I didn't miss her birthday. The older lady who answered the phone was very rude and not willing to work with me to send flowers to my elderly relative. I had a bad experience unfortunately. Walked into the empty store on a Saturday afternoon and the gentleman seemed a bit annoyed that I was there. I asked about wedding flowers and he shortly said I needed an appointment. I explained that I only needed one simple bouquet. He huffed and asked me to wait patiently and someone would help us. I had no problem walking around the empty shop for 5 minutes until the same gentleman came back and said that I needed to make an appointment. I said thank you and began to walk out when another man came from the back and asked what he could do. I explained for the third time that I wanted to talk about one simple bouquet for a wedding. The man said that he could talk to me while he worked on something else. I said no thank you and left. I truly wanted to support a local business. This experience was extremely off putting. If you don't have the time to work with walk in customers, don't open the store. It was unprofessional and made me feel like a burden. Small local businesses should value any customer that walks through their doors. read more

I ordered my wedding flowers from Schafer's a few weeks ago. I got a good deal on them which made me skeptical...and it turns out you get what you pay for. The bouquets and my bridal bouquet were nice being a combination of hydrangeas and carnations. The attention to detail is definitely lacking with the shop. I explained what I wanted several times, including color and shape and I stopped in the day before the wedding to find not want I asked for. I wanted a tight ball bouquet and found one with flowers sticking out all over. Still the day of the wedding the roses that were supposed to be lavender were white and there was no time to change them because of the time. The flowers looked ok in the end but it was very to give direction to their florist as she did not retain it well. read more
