This is a temporary vinyl mural located in Terminal A of the Indianapolis International Airport. It was painted in 2021 by Elisa Barety as part of the Indianapolis Airport Authority Art Program in conjunction with Swish Indy.
The mural wraps around the wall that it is on a depicts some abstract poppies, set against the Indianapolis skyline in the background. The Saleforce Tower is very distinct. She started with the field of flowers and then on a whim, decided to add the city in the background. Barety considered adding some text but decided against it almost immediately. This reproduction is slightly different than the original whereas, the flower field in the original is more defined and broad. You do not see the filed in the reproduction and only see a fraction of the of poppies that are in the original. You still get the gist of what Barety was trying to do.
It is a pretty simple mural, but still maintains its identity. It is not as big as many other the other airport murals.
Barety used the vivid flowers that dot her neighborhood as inspiration for this mural. Initially she wanted to put some tropical flowers in mural, but ultimately decided to go with flowers that were more typical to Indiana. Barety usually makes comic book themed art, so she broadened her range with this mural.
Being that this mural is in the airport, this is definitely not a destination mural. You will only see it if you are flying in or out of the airport. Since it is after the security check point, you need an airplane ticket to see it. So, if you happen to be in the airport be sure to check it out before it is gone. read more
