The weight is not awful! The doctors that I have seen are quite confident and explain everything to you.

Stephanie Gunn is great. They're getting more and more pricey though. I've been going for almost ten years.

Typically the way it works for the past 40 years, is the doctor's office bills the insurance company, then they in turn bill me, until I meet my deductible. Since I could be seeing other medical specialists, the amount of my deductible can be changing from various payments to various sources. SC Internal Medicine Associates seems to think that they are the only source of payments to my deductible. And so ask me if I've met my deductible yet, and if not, demand payment up front for each office visit. From their perspective, it's nice to have the money up front. But this is not how ALL of my doctor's offices have treated me beforehand. And I cannot guarantee that at that exact point in time, whether I've met my deductible. So, I found this practice to be greedy and self-serving. But I tolerated it. So, then I got a follow-up blood test and I got that order from the doctor, for which I had to pay the office visit up front, with the assumption my deductible was not met. I go down to the blood lab, they draw the blood, and they charge my insurance. I expect to get an insurance bill from this...exactly how it has worked all the other times. But then my results come in and my doctor wants me to come to him to get the results. It's a simple test for a very common ailment. One test. One number result. And every lab result I've ever seen shows you the range of low to high and tells you directly if your result is out of tolerance. But guess what, to come in, I have to pay, yes, the office visit again! Double dipping! No, those results are MY PROPERTY. They must hand them over to me. I agree if the doctor wanted to give me his analysis of the results, I'd pay for that. But if I just want the results, then I don't expect the counter clerk to tell me I HAVE TO COME IN AND SEE THE DOCTOR TO GET THE RESULTS THAT I PAID FOR. Now, that I have a cooler head, I don't think it was my doctor's fault, this entire mess. Unless he's the owner of SC Internal Medicine Associates. I thinks it's SC Internal Medicine Associates. They set the policies. They bring in doctor's to work at their "company". And then they institute these greedy, self-serving policies to ensure they get paid up front. And if they're wrong, I can only assume they'll give you a refund...but I wonder if they would be as upfront about that. And then when they tell you that you have to come in to see the doctor, they pretend they are the doctor, and say, oh, it's the DOCTOR'S POLICY. Hmm, I don't think so. I think it's this company's policy. Now, the doctor has blame in that he chooses to be associated with this company that behaves in this manner. But all in all, I wouldn't use this company or any of its doctors because of its policies designed to ensure they get paid their money up front, and let YOU figure out if you were fairly charged later.

I recently went and got cortisone injections in my knees by one of the PA's there and it helped tremendously! However, when I called and scheduled my next appointment for 3 months later, I was asked who I saw and I told them that I started out with one person, she went on maternity leave, and I was switched to someone else and never switched back, so they scheduled me with the original PA, not even an MD. When I got there, one of office staff checked with her about my cash price and she told them it would be nearly double what I paid 3 months prior. She didn't even do the cortisone injections that the appointment was specifically scheduled for. So I paid double for the following: a nurse to take my blood pressure and tell me it was high, the PA came in and rechecked it and said it was still a little high, therefore she gave me a prescription for Lisinopril. She also gave me a prescription for Drysol Antiperspirant. That's it. So she doubled the cost of my office visits for just this. I took the Lisinopril for 2 days and both nights I work up between 2 and 3 a.m with the most extreme headache I had ever had. I called over the weekend and was told to discontinue use (I'm sure I will be charged for this phone call). Eventually they called in another prescription today, Thursday, with the exact same exact side effects. Glad I researched the medication prior to paying for it to be filled because they obviously didn't. I was called today about it and I told them it had the same side effects and that I wasn't going to pay for it and take it to be miserable again. I also called to scheduled my knee injections that she would not do while I was there and requested the previous PA that the office visit was lower. I was informed that my office visit charge had been permanently increased to double what I was initially paying no matter which PA I saw. I have paid them in cash for the past 7 to 8 years, they did basically nothing during the appointment I scheduled and now I'm going to have to pay more than what I've been paying in the past in addition to the amount that I paid for the appointment that nothing was done. I have called multiple providers and have found several of them to be less expensive than SC Internal Medicine and find their ratings and reviews to be exceptionally better that SC Internal Medicine. I have also found multiple providers that give more than a 20% discount for cash paying customers. I guess SC Internal Medicine would rather work with insurance companies that discount their services between 30 - 75% rather than get paid cash by a patient that has always paid their bills in full for 8 years. One Doctor's office offers 45% off for cash patients if the amount is paid at the time of the visit. And I actually get to see an MD instead of a physician's assistant. WOW!!! Which do you think I'm going to go with.

I have since found another practitioner (an actual doctor) who does not charge me every time she has to write a refill. Due to heavy traffic, I realized I would be a few minutes late so I called the office to let them know I was on my way.  I was told by the receptionist to come on in since I was less than a mile from the facility.  I arrived in the LMC parking lot at 3:43.  When I went to check-in, I was told by the staff member that they might not be able to "fit me in".  I explained to her, three times, that I had called ahead concerning my delay and was told it was not a problem and to come in.  I was then called back to a patient room where I sat until 4:20.  I asked a staff member when I would be seen.  He explained, in a surly tone, that since I was "late" another patient had been put before me and Hunter Porter was examining him in the room across the hall.  I realize this is an over-explanation but these facts are relevant as to what was to come. When Hunter Porter finally came into the room, I told him that I was upset because of the lack of communication between their office staff.  I explained to Hunter Porter that I would not be returning to LMC on Dutch Fork Rd. and would be looking for a provider closer to my work due to heavy traffic on Dutch Fork Rd. I was checking out when Hunter Porter called me aside to lecture me about my comment about my appointment being 40 minutes late.  He said that a nurse had told him I was "yelling and slamming the patient room door."  This is an absolute fabrication.  I did not "yell" nor did I slam the door and I explained this to Hunter. I asked Hunter if he had heard any yelling or door slamming since he was in the exam room directly across the hall from me and he said no.  I would think that if I had actually been yelling and slamming doors, the nurse would have come to check on the problem or see if the patient was in distress (I was there for a refill for anxiety medication). The patient's needs were not taken into consideration, instead, the nurse chose to relay an exaggerated version of what actually happened. I then resumed check-out procedures and could hear someone in the hallway speaking loud enough that I realized he was talking about me.  I assume he was talking to Hunter and that Hunter was relaying the exaggerated version of what actually took place. Again, Hunter had already told me that he had not heard any yelling or door slamming and I had already explained to Hunter that I had not slammed the door or yelled yet Hunter still chose to relay the exaggerated version to another staff member. The person speaking loudly was one of the doctors. He was still speaking about me as I was leaving the office so I video recorded him.  Mind you, I had already had a staff member fabricate what had actually happened, was lectured, and now the exaggerated version was being relayed to the doctor. I was then sent a letter from Hunter Porter stating, "The relationship between physician, practitioners and their patients is based on mutual respect and concerns, the provision of sound medical care, and the adherence to the patient to the rules of the medical practice.  When there is a breakdown in this relationship, it is often best that it be terminated." Hunter also chose to write the exaggerated version in my medical chart. I had no problem with the letter since LFPB clearly does not show "respect" to their patients but to actually write these lies in my medical chart was just too much. I contacted the Lexington Medical Center Action Line to file a complaint. All they did was refer this back to the Ballentine Office Manager who finally deemed to call me after I called the Action Line 5 times over a 4 week period. She backed up the actions of the employees 100% even though I have a video of their unprofessionalism.
