Be aware of high cost to prepare taxes from Granite Mountain Tax Service. Three years ago I paid…read more$195 to a CPA firm in Show Low. This year it cost me $728. That is a 273% fee increase. Two years ago I paid $255 to a tax preparer for a 185.5% increase. Last year I paid $275 to the tax preparer for a 164.73% increase. People complain about food prices. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics pricing of food went up 5.76% from 2023 to 2025. This is the first tax service that also tacked on additional fees for calculations. If it wasn't for mentioning I am a veteran for a discount, I am sure the fee would have been near $800. I have been retired for about 15 years. Not much has changed for income for S.S., pensions don't change so maybe interest from credit unions and retirement accounts may go up or down. I read that the average cost to have taxes done is $300 to $1000 for a business. I am not a business, just a retired person trying to pay everyday bills and mortgage.
