The MBA program is relatively young, compared to other top tier peers, but the specific programs repackage educational practices rooted in a long tradition of innovation and effectiveness. Oxford institutions, such as double blind marking, meld nicely with MBA standards like study groups and practical applications of learning. I was very impressed with the amenities of Said Business School on a recent work visit. Spotlessly clean and practically impressive it's not an ostentatious place but is much more inviting than being merely functional. The lecture theatres are spacious and inviting (if confusingly identical) with handy power sockets under every desk for laptops, the cafeteria is very pleasant and there is even a gravelled garden in the centre of the building to use in the warmer weather. The Said Business School is hardly part of the dreaming spires aspect of Oxford, but it's still a pretty impressive building with its glass and stone frontage. This is the home of the future business leaders of the world and is host to an impressive array of speakers throughout the year. I always feel like I should be dressed in a suit just to walk past the place and it's quite awe-inspiring to see the focused students sat at their desks even on a Friday night. The huge windows offer a fascinating glimpse into this world of practical academia and it all seems rather scarily professional. You're most likely to come here for one of the many talks that are held. Lots of companies give career seminars here and there are usually canapes and drinks afterwards. The people at reception are very friendly and there's a TV screen showing you what's on when and where to go. The reception is a bit offputting because there are only a couple of benches, meaning you can be left standing around slightly awkwardly. Watch out for the revolving door as well - I usually manage to look wonderfully unprofessional by getting stuck in it. There are entrepeneurial talks, professional workshops, competitions and experiments. Most are free and held in comfortable, modern lecture theatres. They get some really big names in, which is a great opportunity to hear inspirational stories and pieces of advice.
