This coastal-themed gallery is in a nice little retail space, right across from the Winery on the Bay in the Rockport Arts District. They keep regular hours, but they also have a monthly Arts Walk that the Arts Council coordinates, and they stay open late, serve up some wine, beer and cheese, and show off their greatest works! I really enjoyed the nautical themed paintings, as well as the ones of the local Aransas County wildlife. They also do frames, which look really neat! The owner, Mike was super friendly, let the dog come on in too! The shop was super clean, well lit and fun to visit! Rockport has a reputation for being a funky arts town, and this gallery does a great job of representing!

They specialize in Southwest Native American jewelry- all authentic wares with real turquoise and other gems and stones. This shop only sells the real deal merchandise, and they can prove it! They've got certificates of authenticity, and disclose who the artist is. There's apparently a big trade elsewhere in fake Native American art, coming in from the Far East and the Middle East. The proprietors of this store are on top of things, and personally warrant that their stuff is real, authentic and legitimate. Other vendors in NM sell their stones that are really t glass, plastic or rosin. Apparently, even seasoned buyers can get fooled. Don't worry about that here at the Turquoise Eagle! The store is run by father and son, and you can tell jewelry goes back a long way in their family. They obviously know what they're talking about, and come from the reservations or pueblos of New Mexico. I grew up going to a lot of these pueblos, and I can personally attest that they've got some magnificent examples of the artwork from the different tribes. They also sell Native American goods, like items for ceremonies, dream catchers, CDs of chanting and singing. It's such a cool store with some beautiful jewelry.

After some quick instruction, the kids, ranging from 6-12 years old, all dove into their own creations. Chip helped as needed, but really let the kids be the creators, which I really appreciated. He had all kinds of supplies, from various shaped buckets to kitchen utensils, that were "repurposed" as sand sculpting tools. The kids were so into their creations, they barely looked up for 3 hours! In the end, they had lots of compliments from people on the beach, and very happy parents. I highly recommend anyone...from couples to big groups, give Chip a call and make some memories together.

We found Chip's sand castle building class on the Corpus Christi website and I'm so glad we did. He was GREAT with the children. He was super patient and relaxed. He showed them some very basic stuff so they wouldn't get frustrated and then built upon that foundation. He came with lots of equipment for us so we weren't providing or hauling anything ourselves. Chip was so friendly! He helped set my worrying mom-mind at ease. He seemed to sense when the kids had enough of one activity and moved on to the next. I highly recommend his services to anyone else going to the beach in the Corpus Christi, North Padre area. If we go back again, we'll be calling upon Chip!
