There was a separate area with Wendy houses, trampolines and a climbing frame for the smaller children which was in a really nice relaxing area. You can get up close with pigs, rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens in Pet's Corner. There is 66 acres of beautiful gardens and woodland walks, the views across the River Severn and Wales and spectacular ! There's also a cafe and shop. The cafe is really nice I had a caramel latte with a cheese and chutney sandwich came to £5.50 wich Is good value. Plenty of parking available. Overall a fantastic day out which was really enjoyed by all.

The house and gardens are open to the public during the summer months, and there are also countless festivals and seasonal events happening throughout the rest of the year. There is also a short avenue of arts and crafts shops which are open throughout the year. Here you'll find Busy Bees Patchwork and many other pottery, art and smithies. I used to work at the government building that's right around the corner, so a few lunch hours were spent walking around this park's stunning grounds. The park and woodland walk is open from 9 am to dusk. The House is open from Easter to the end of September, with house tours from Wednesday - Sunday. Tours last a little over an hour starting at 11am, then run hourly until 4pm. Events are held year round, and more information can be found on their website. Tredegar House is licensed for weddings and caters for conferences, although I'm happy just meandering around the park with the grand house serving as part of the background. If you're not a driver, you can get here via the number 30 and 36 Cardiff Bus, which I'd recommend instead of taking the train, as Newport Railway Station is a fair bit away.

I'd already seen children wandering in there in their karate gear, so I knew they did some classes there - but I had no idea how many. In fact, they do 5-a-side, basketball, netball, fitness classes, dance classes, yoga, martial arts, and even language lessons! They have a Welsh children's nursery, host after school activities and holiday programmes, and parents and tots groups. I had no idea there was so much going on right through the week. There's also a car park at the back of the building, which is handy! Well worth checking out if you're new to Canton and want to find some local activities.

The Thursday group is Welsh speaking and Welsh nursery rhymes are sung, although a lot of non Welsh speakers and triers also go. The hall is vaste and 'islands' of mats, activities and toys fill it. You pay a couple of quid and you get tea, squash, biscuits and apples. The other parents seem friendly and me little one loved it. Next to the hall and within the same building is a Welsh speaking nursery for 2 year olds to primary. I went to check it out and got a really good first impression of it. Forgot all the questions I was going to ask, just saw a room full of happy children, that seemed to be all that mattered.

They are the wonderful grounds of an old manor house. It is in fact a series of gardens, or 'garden rooms', each of which have a distinct style or mood. It's another one of those places that has surprises and discoveries around every corner. My personal favourite is a little spring with a pool full of coins, which I recall getting very wet in as a child. It should be noted that they close at 4pm during winter, and last admission is a hour before closing. So you better get down there now.

For locals, however, it's a pleasant and very well-kept green space with nicely planted borders and flat pathways. There's a bandstand at the park's core, revealing the park's Victorian roots, although this one is a modern replica replacing the Victorian original (albeit an authentic replica!). Occasionally the band stand is used for live music events, and the park as a whole is used as a location for some of the city's gentle 'Walk for Health' events. The park's also home to a war memorial, a wooden sculpture, a multi-use sports court, a bowling green, toilets, and playground areas.

If you happen to be in the area and fancy a nosh-up in the park, I'd recommend you pop across the road to North Street's renowned Southville Deli and pick up a few delightful treats.
