My husband and I used to say, "I know if she can just get in, she will find her place there". This is her first year, and I can't say enough good things about this school. Besides having top notch education in mechanical engineering (her major) and research, the campus does an amazing job of keeping families involved, and also making the students feel at home. My daughter was so excited to go back to campus after winter break. She loves living on campus, and knows her professors. She has already hinted she may want to stay over for research opportunities during summer. And what is a plus is that she is just as excited to tell me about their social events. Lastly, I also love that they invited the families on campus the first week of school. We get caught up with monthly emails and video meetings. What an amazing institute all around.

These are recent photographs I took to show the magnificent architecture and brilliant landscaping of the Pasadena institution that, like few others, speaks to the importance and the majesty of the sciences. We don't need to pay for expensive trips to parks anywhere else, if we live in the Los Angeles area. Pasadena itself is the crown of Southern California and CalTech is its diadem. Look at my stylized shots and decide for yourself. Who wouldn't want to spend an afternoon here? Have lunch and then take your tea and cookies to the campus within walking distance of Old Town Pasadena. Hyacinths for the soul ...

As a music major, they have excellent programs regarding the arts and have a separate building specifically for the arts. Although, sometimes music classes may be held at other buildings. I did finish with 70 credits with a 3.0 GPA although, when it comes to counseling and class advisory, they're not much help unfortunately. Basically for the most part, you do have to figure it out on your own. I generally did have a good experience and education at PCC. Especially with understanding with how music works when it comes to theory. Some of the learning is hands on and off. When it comes to college social life, if I'm being honest, it was great to make the connections I did...although, I should've mainly focused on trying to further my education rather than distracting myself. Other than that, it's generally a good community college if you're coming out of high school and a beautiful campus in my opinion.

So these days all the parking for the Sunday swap meet are inside the parking structure which is okay but usually it's a bit of a walk for people. I personally think that the college should hand out free water bottles to folks coming to this swap meet during the hot summer months which Pasadena can get into the 100 plus degrees.

When researching schools, you are at the mercy of the reviews written about that school. You must…read morediscern if all the praise or all the warnings are truthful and accurate. When I researched the master's program for marriage and family therapy at Pacific Oaks College, I noticed several reviews that praised this program and only three reviews that warned future students about attending this college. I assumed these three people were just bitter and angry individuals. Surprisingly, these three people were telling the truth. Pacific Oaks College falsely claims to be there for the students in all situations. They claim that since they are a smaller college they have the unique ability to get to know the students and be their advocate. When the students enter the practicum portion of the program, Pacific Oaks promises they will ensure that each practicum site will provide the education, experience and supervision required for each student to graduate. All of this is a lie. Just as the three negative but truthful reviews mentioned once this college gets your money, they are no longer available to you. If you are having issues at your practicum site, they will not advocate for you or assist you or intervene on your behalf. Certain sites especially for the LGBTQI specialty cohort and practicum sites that are at schools do not offer enough hours, so you end up having to take an additional semester of practicum. You may not be eligible to graduate with your cohort if you cannot gain enough hours. Pre-practicum classes are a joke. At each practicum site you are in group supervision with students from other colleges. I had students from Azusa Pacific and Loyola Marymount students in my group supervision. My basic knowledge on practicum etiquette was lacking. I did not know half as much as they knew, so it was extremely embarrassing knowing that we had not been properly prepared for practicum. Speaking of being prepared, be careful with the professors at this school. If you oppose certain professors' views or ask clarifying questions to certain professors, they may feel challenged by you. If they feel challenged, they will retaliate, and you will see a noticeable drop in your future grades for that class. Your best bet is to agree with everything they say, and smile and nod during classroom discussions. If you are fortunate enough to enroll in a class taught by Dr. Erica Rodriguez, Dr. Eugenia Rodriguez, Dr. Creet, Professor October, Professor Julie Walker or Professor Edward Bielecki NOT S. Bielecki consider yourself fortunate and absorb all that they teach you. They are solid instructors with a wealth of knowledge. Beware of Professor Paige, S. Bielecki, and D. Doyle. Also, no matter how sincere Dr. Kami sounds he will not assist you or follow through with whatever promise he says he will do. Lastly, make copies of EVERY document you have for pre-practicum and each semester of practicum. These documents are required for graduation, and some are sent to the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) once you graduate. The practicum coordinator lost our documents FIVE times. We were scrambling trying to locate files and resubmit them in order to graduate and receive our associate number. I really hope you heed my warning just as I wished I had believed the three honest reviews when I was researching this school. Save yourself the money, stress and frustration. Go to a different college!!!!!

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT…read more I am writing to express my disappointment with the lack of communication and follow through from your team. I had a scheduled video call with Cody J. and he never showed up, nor did he send an email to reschedule. I waited online for well over 10 minutes and when I reached out to him, I received no response. This was incredibly frustrating as I had been looking forward to having my questions answered about your doctorate program. After not hearing back from Cody, I attempted to schedule another call online in hopes of speaking with someone else. Unfortunately, I did not receive a response from anyone on your team. It has now been over 2 weeks and I have yet to receive a follow up or phone call regarding my interest in the program. I had high hopes for Pacific Oaks and was excited about the possibility of pursuing my doctorate with your institution. However, the lack of communication and follow through has left me feeling disappointed and frustrated. I hope that in the future, your team can improve in this area to better support potential students like myself.

The professors engage with the students in personal and personable ways. The Witherspoon Scholarship Program (their honors curriculum) is superb. And, above all, they are thoroughly biblical in their approach to all their subjects, whether they be biblical studies, theology, education, science, history, whatever. I have also found the faculty and staff to be pastoral in their treatment and oversight of their students. Because they are a smaller college, Providence might not have every major available under the sun, but if they offer what you're looking for, you'll find a Christian-centered, grace-driven, biblically-based education on offer with a small tight-knit community of students who look out and support one another. Some more comments: * Providence is, to the best of my knowledge, the only conservative Reformed college west of the Mississippi (that might matter to some people). * Also, my son is a student at the school (a junior at the time of writing). We are minorities and there are other minorities (Hispanic, Black, Asian) at the school. Our direct experience has been that Providence is accepting, supportive and affirming of all students, regardless of sex, race or ethnicity.

To think that great preachers have come out of this school is both enviable and commendable. I intend on pursuing an MDiv here sometime in the future, even if I do not plan on going full time into ministry (I just love school and learning new things, tbh).

I'll comment in particular on the academics of the School of Theology…read more I found a trilogy of major theological approaches, which are not separate and distinct but integrally interconnected; yet an identification proved very helpful to me On one hand, there was Biblical Studies. In addition to what you may expect "Bible study" to be, as I had been doing it for all of my Christian life, this approach focuses heavily on parsing essential Greek or Hebrew words (I often tell people some of those words cannot be accurately translated in less than a paragraph), on details of historical and cultural contexts (context is everything!), and on identification of authors and their biographies. All of this is highly important; yet after I while I began to feel bogged down in minutiae. Another major approach is Systematic Theology. This formulates doctrinal overviews overarching all of what the Bible and the Christian Church teach. It's great for developing a biblically-based worldview, for enabling us to bring together perspectives that may superficially appear widely divergent. Eventually, though, I began to it could be too much of an ivory tower head trip (the same reaction I had to my undergraduate philosophy course, BTW). What I discovered at Fuller was a great middle ground: Biblical Theology. This bridges Biblical Studies and Systematic Theology, crucially incorporating indispensable elements of both; yet the focus is on what the scripture actually teaches. Biblical Theology is the conclusion of the quests of Biblical Studies and Systematic Theology. Biblical Theology is what I fell in love with. It's the core of the ministries the Lord has me in now.
