I just could not let another day go by without sharing this story and my experience with Karl…read moreMalone Motorsports Hailey ID. Recently 10/12/2023 bought a 2005 KTM 450EXC. It had been stored indoors for a number of years and needed some attention. I lowered my price to the seller knowing that I had to put maybe $500 into it to bring it back to life. Karl Malone is the only dealer in our small town for KTM, Yamaha and other makes of snowmobiles and Razors. Well the whole thing of bringing it in started off poorly since I did not have a trailer. Each day I would call or go in to see if they had picked it up yet ($50)from my seller. No each time but maybe tomorrow, right? Finally I asked if YOU have a trailer I have the truck and time to pick it up. NO, insurance liability. Eventually I took one of their people and their trailer and we picked it up. Days go by and no we have not gotten to it yet. Understandable, right? Finally they say it is up on the racks and they are working on it. Then weeks go by. Each Friday I would expect a call to say it is ready and no call. This went on for a month the first time. Finally after harassing them enough and more than a month they say it is ready. I go down there and it would not start. After rebuilding the carburetor, waiting for parts and nothing. Let me add at this juncture that their shop time is $169/hr by the way. For inexperienced non certified KTM mechanics? A price like that would be for skilled and knowledgeable mechanics. More time goes by. No call. I am frustrated as hell and cannot imagine what is taking so much time. Finally I get the call. You bike is running and ready to pick up. Well at $169/hr and rebuilding just the carb you can imagine that portion alone is $500. Leave out adjusting valves and other technical stuff. The total of the first bill came to $1771 (WTF?) and more than a month and no calls from them at all. Brought it back home and guess what. It would not start at all! Called to let them know that I am bringing it back due to this. Dropped off again and they then said that they needed to put in a new fuel pump. Really? Do you guys even know what you are doing? This is a single cylinder, single carb and single spark plug motorcycle. Another month goes by and no calls. I drop by, I call and I feel like the bad guy. VERY unprofessional behind the counters by the way. I tell them that I am not paying for them to rebuild my carb a second time. They somewhat agree. New battery and they say my speedo was shorted out and draining the battery. That was not the case when I brought it in. They left it sitting in the rain for months. The inside of the speedo was filled with condensation. Their solution? They disconnect the speedo so no display at all now but not when I brought it in, right? Then they handed me a battery tender that I did not ask for as a solution for the electrical AND charged me $60 for that! The story goes on for a while but I think you are beginning to get the picture. $2000 later and I had just bought the bike for $1800? And it barely starts (is not jetted properly at all), now now speedo but has a nice battery tender?? WTF? You can take what you want from this story but unless you have a boatload of cash, alot of patience for unprofessional folks and alot of time on your hands I would sure find another solution to getting your motorcycle, ATC or snowmobile repaired. A big thumbs down to Karl Malone Motorsports Hailey ID. I hope their new Ford Dealership is going far better.
