Want to camp super close to your neighbors? Like the 50/50 odds you'll have to walk around your camper or tent to use the picnic tables - opposite of the camp fire. Have a questions about.. anything.. enjoy guessing since no one is ever at the entrance. I will absolutely never stay here! But thats just me, let me explain.
Never in my life have I seen such ridiculousness. Reservations can only be made online, np. No attendants at the gates - ever - um, ok. Locking campers IN and FINING them $50 if they want to leave.. excuse me? My boyfriend and I came up to visit some friends, a couple that had rented a weekend spot for their camper, and had the 8pm football game on. Game went on late, around midnight, and we said our goodbyes and tried to leave. The next 2 hours were pretty much mind blowing. The gates were down and padlocked. No number to call, no in case of emergency, nothing. Found online that there are volunteers that are "hosts" on the property and have a key. I hated to wake someone up that late, so we called several other numbers, thinking someone in one facility had to be around. Nothing. Finally decided to call the local Sheriffs department to see if they had a number we could reach someone at (vs knocking and waking up volunteers). Sheriffs told us a officer was near and would come. He came but didn't have a key, so instructed us to wake the Camp Hosts. When we tried to do that they screamed at us and said we didn't have an emergency and that we were going to be cited. Also something along the lines unless its a medical emergency we couldn't leave... are you kidding me? That's when my phone rang the Sheriffs office again saying a ranger was in rout and to make our way to the gates again. But surprise surprise, the super pissed Park Ranger didn't even have a key. He ended up making the Hosts come down and unlock the gates and then fined us $50 for "waking him up". They had no signs stating the gates would be locked at 10pm. There was a sign on the side of the building about visitors leaving at 9:30.. unfortunately for us when we drove in around 8pm it was dark and didn't see it. Our friends who had made the reservations looked all over their paperwork and it said nothing about gates closing. The way this was handled was just awful. Shame on the "Hosts" for not being at the gates all weekend and passing out paperwork with this information.. that the Ranger said was supposed to be done (but overlooked it since they all seemed to be first name basis buddies). They even added that we were yelling when it was actually the other way around, especially when we began apologizing profusely for waking them up. The Ranger and Hosts were full of assumptions and acting like we were a bunch of kids partying it up. For the record, the 5 of us are all working, law abiding citizens, in our 30s and do not deserve that kind of judgment for enjoying a campfire and football game on a Saturday night.
Moving on - I understand the parks do not "bring in enough money for employees", but it would be great if you take the $50 I will be paying in fines and get some signage! read more
