The Angliss Op Shop is a heart warming place that has helped a LOT of people. It exists to raise…read moremoney for the Angliss hospital and it does a great job. The staff here are all volunteers and they each work half a day each week. Last year they raised over $150,000 for the hospital and it purchased a new operating table and upgraded patient beds so that they now have hand operated remotes rather than foot pedals that control the bed height. The staff were all treated to a special morning tea at the hospital to thank them for their efforts. The Op Shop itself is quite small but there is a lot packed into it. The prices are really cheap and they operate to help people who cannot afford clothing just as much as people needing medical attention. The staff are super friendly and are always up for a long conversation. I went there for the first time last week and picked up two dresses for just $8. Try to leave a donation if you can because 100% of their earnings goes straight to the hospital. They don't even have a phone because as one staff member told me "they cost money". They have accessories, clothing, books, kids toys, plants and garden accessories too. Give them a visit or drop off your unwanted clothes and books. They will really appreciate it and it's the only place I'll be leaving my things from now on.

An op shop so cool it takes two shops to sell its stuff…read more I spend most of my shopping time in the clothes and little things side. This is because I like clothes, and I have no need for the furniture. It also sells stuffed toys, a huge array of books, shoes, curtains, fabrics, knitting gear. Really, everything, and all at spare change prices. The stock changes all the time, too, so it's worth popping in whenever you're in the area. Be warned, though, they're running very low on space, so you might end up in a customer traffic jam (the aisles are only one person wide), or if you're clumsy like me you might find yourself on the floor having tripped over a long wedding dress. I've had it recommended to me a few times as the op shop to go to for shoes. I don't know why this is, I didn't find anything I could wear - but then I have large wide feet so perhaps it's my problem, not theirs.

While the suburb itself really doesn't have anything "Upper" to offer, this little gem still holds the old values of the good old-fashioned op shops. You wont find uppity staff, overpriced clothes or other tragedies here. Most of the clothing is under $10, and the range is pretty good. They have a large range of homewares aswell, and these are all affordable and, depending on the donations of course, in good nick. Even if you don't find anything worth picking up, PWP is a good example of what op shopping used to be like before they were all plundered and turned into "Recycled Boutiques".

The FTG Salvos is huge. It is the biggest op shop I have ever been to and the range is quite…read moreimpressive. They tend to stock a lot of brand name clothes, probably because they are so close to Knox City Shopping Centre and most of the donations are sourced locally. The prices can get pretty high here so I don't rate them too highly for their service as a charity shop. While I commend the Salvos for their work, it kind of defeats the point if they raise prices so much that the people they exist to help cannot afford to shop there anymore. The newer the item is here, the more expensive. While this can be a frustration for the needy this is super good for vintage hunters like myself. I have picked up three or so very cute vintage dresses in great condition for around $6 each here. Similar dresses on ebay sell for upwards of $40 so I'm pretty chuffed with my finds. As usual, the staff here are friendly and chatty so allow time for a cash register convo. The store sells bric-a-brac, books, shoes, magazines, furniture, formal attire and regular clothing wear. Donation bins are out the front.

Dresses, suits, shirts, shoes are all neatly arranged making browsing convenient, no real hunting here. The store is too small to even consider less than perfect garments and they have a consistently high turnover of stock. Think 80's Country Road, Feathers, Basque, Perri Cutten, Anthea Crawford, Regatta, costume jewellery, hats, party heels, etc. The staff all know their labels and price accordingly, the prices are still a bargain for the quality of stock but be prepared to pay between $20-$50 for a mens suit/evening dress. They sort the clothing by gender and type of clothing, with regular ongoing sales on certain items. The prices were quite fair for the selection and quality of stuff they have. The shop is located along the iconic Chapel Street, where there's lots of weird vintage shops and eclectic clothing shops, so I figured this would be a good place to scope out some weird clothes. Storehouse didn't disappoint! They had ugly Christmas sweaters on display, and all kinds of old stuff. They not only sell clothes, but have plates, dishes, cups, bowls, and some cookware. They've got a good selection of old books at cheap prices, so if you leave the book on the train, it's not a big deal. The staff was on the ball, running the register and answering questions.

There is so much variety in the objects…read moreon the shelves that visiting the shop is like going treasure hunting; there's a lot of junk, but also plenty of good finds. The shop is run by volunteers to fund education qualifications for young people and the disadvantaged. They rely on donations of all their stock. They sell items inclusive of clothing, dvds, cds, books, toys and bric-a-brac. They only take quality items that are in good condition so there aren't any shockingly horrible things in there. The atmosphere is pretty friendly. People pop in and out as much to have a chat as to pick up something from the shop. The prices are fairly reasonable - the nicer and the newer an item the higher the price. It is logical. There are some prices that are a little higher than I would expect for an op shop but it is all going to a good cause so complaining is definitely not an option. There is also quite a large range of furniture and decor items in this op shop - definitely check it out.

My one Curve Vintage qualm? It feels as if the place is never open. But InStyle - which ranks it amongst Victoria's best vintage boutiques - assures me that this is because Curve is open for the abbreviated hours of midday until 6pm from Tuesday to Saturday much like many of the exclusive little boutiques dotted along Gertrude. If you're serious about your vintage you will seriously love Curve. Prices are attendantly pretty steep but as most vintage afficionados know, a great vintage find is priceless.

I come here with my partner because he likes to check out the men's racks and try on vintage jackets and shirts. I have to say that Curve's collection of men's wear is phenomenal and they cater for a lot of different styles: there are wacky and lurid shirts, and reserved and classic dinner jackets. I spend most of my time on the other side of the store buried amongst the women's wear. During the winter months I would stock up on boots and the warmer dresses that I could easily wear with tights. When I visited last time there were some gorgeous summer dresses and shorts perfect for the hot weather. The prices are quite high but I honestly don't mind paying. The clothes and accessories are fantastic and the service is always great.
