You really have to go in as there's always a chance they might have what your looking for though the sizes stocked generally range from a size 6/8 to a size 14/16. Stock is always changing and sometimes only one or two items in a style come in so well worth going in every couple of weeks. They also stock a small range of local/scottish themed tea towels, thimbles and trinkets like that that you love to pick up as a moment on holiday. It's a family run shop and the staff are always super helpful and really nice to deal with.

It is small but full of books of all varieties. I really like coming to this shop. It is quite amazing what you can find in there! Sometimes relatively recent books to older book you have always wanted to read but struggled to find a copy of! Their books are affordable and it's not uncommon to leave with an arm full. There is usually only one member of staff on when you go in as it's a pretty quiet shop but he/she is friendly and often up for a yarn when you go in. If visiting it cold be worth a look to see what gem you may find!

We loved the Braveheart Bears we got for our friends little girls:) It is a wonderful shop that reflexs the kindness of the Scottish people. The owners even invited us to there home to see how the Harris Tweed was woven. How great was that!

It's a must to book a fitting and kilt hire in plenty of time though to ensure you get what you're looking for as they can get really busy, especially when there are big Island weddings and special occasions like the school 6th year dinner dance. If you're looking to splash out then you can have a custom kilt handmade to your exact request by an experienced kiltmaker. They also have for sale a small selection of ladies jewellery and tweed accessories available, along with clan crest cufflinks and kilt pins, hip flasks, ties and so on.

The shop also sells a great selection of wool, knitting needles and patterns along with other haberdashery items like ribbon, needles, machine oil etc. They also stock a range of facy hats for weddings or Church on a Sunday and I think there's also a small selection of jewellery and bags. A nice bright and airy shop opposite one of the main cars parks with friendly helpful staff its always nice to go in for a browse to see what they have.

Some items are a bit expensive but the pieces are stunning. All are sterling silver with various stones or celtic designs on them. They are also a book shop and stock hundreds of books. A lot are local books, gaelic books but they also have lots of others crafting, fiction, autobiographies etc. The staff are friendly and the shop itself is always clean and fresh and well laid out so you don't tend to bump into other customers when in there. It is well worth going in here when in the town.

They are a welcomed addition who specialise in Watches and Jewellery. They can replace a watch battery instantly; other places made you wait an hour for this! They have a huge range of watches, and since DD Morrisons left they are oen of the few dedicated places for Jewellery like this. They can make a ring or watch smaller or larger in size which is always useful! I really like this wee shop and would recommend anyone go in even for a look! When looking for a special gift you are bound to find something to your liking in here.

A new management team took over last year in the hope to rebuild the name of Harris Tweed. With the biggest mill Mackenzie's shut for business the future lies with Shawbost and Carloway mills. But with no work going out to the weavers we have to wonder how the authority expects Harris tweed to survive. The authority are located down a side street 10 minutes from the town centre and are there for anyone with questions regarding Harris Tweed. The saddest thing is that now there is no-where on Lewis to buy Harris Tweed, there is one shop in Harris which sells it but we are hopeful Shwabost mill will soon open a shop and that the industry gets back to how it was just a few years ago.

It is an ideal place to come when looking for a gift for weddings or anniversaries or even just for a birthday. The floor is full of household items like plates, cups, wine glasses and much more. To the back is a section of materials and sewing items. Lots of organza, silk and other linings as well as thread, ribbons and needles. The staff here are friendly and helpful and wrap all items well. Gift wrap is also available for an added cost. Upstairs is the clothes, I personally never shop here but it is popular with locals. They have a large range of men and women's clothes and shoes. I find them a bit overpriced and dated but it is worth a look anyway as you never know what you may find!

Murdo Maclean's is a great local shop stocking a massive range of goods…read more Right in the centre of town there's a large downstairs area the front filled with ornaments, cookwear, glasses, mirrors, clocks, cutlery sets - lots of great gift ideas or just to treat yourself. In the back downstairs has a large range of soft furnishings and a nice selection of fabrics (The only place to buy fabrics off the bolt on the island) and a nice selection of ribbons, trims and associated sewing supplies. Staff are always super friendly and helpful and always make sure your purchases are well protected. Upstairs is split levels, in the middle is the shoe section, they sometimes have nice shoes at a very reasonable price, but others can be on the more expensive side, you just have too know what to look for. Staff are trained to measure feet and are always helpful when trying on footwear. There's also a mens section which mostly stocks posh clothes, work shirts, suits etc but has a small selection of casualwear too. There's a nice selection of Posh womens hats and bags (Think weddings and church) and a range of womens wear and underwear which is mostly suited to the more mature lady but sometimes you can find a great modern young person piece. Staff are always helpful and you can nearly always find something to suit your budget.

When you walk in you are greeted to a whole wall of shelves filled with books, tables of trinkets and cheery staff. There is a second room which again is filled with more stuff and then up the stairs is where all the furniture is kept tables, sofas, chairs! For people who have larger items to donate they have a van which can pick up items in the Stornoway area. They are open Monday to Friday 10 4pm last time I checked. It's the place to go for people looking for bargains, you are bound to find some gem in this shop!

My favourite charity shop by far!…read more Due to it being completely overcrowded and some items being there for quite some time there's a rather random smell when you go it but you get used to it and it's well worth putting up with A paperback book is just 40p and you quite often pick up some random and obscure items for a great price. They sell everything apart from clothes - Small household and bedding items, to suitcases and breadmakers up to larger items of furniture and electrical equipment. Nearly all the staff are voluntary (apart from the shop manageress) and are really friendly and chatty. Open Monday to Saturday until 5 most days (not sure about Saturday) For larger items and Household clearances they provide a free collection service, days and times for areas depend on where the van is bound for at the time. Donations are always welcome. Proceeds from this charity shop stay locally and go towards the Bethesda Nursing Home and Hospice which is a great local cause and in constant need of funds as the Hospice is only 50% funded.

The shop is small but you are bound to find what you need here. They offer the usual kinds of paints gloss, matt, emulsion etc by different makers. The best thing about them is if you are after a particular colour you just need an example of what you want it to look like and they have a machine which matches the colour as closely as possible. This came in very hand when redecorating recently. The staff are very helpful in finding you the right paint and their prices are reasonable.

The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly and prices are reasonable. They also have a paint mixing machine so can provide dulux samples from paint chips in a matter of minutes, along with larger orders or matching paint to your own spec, really helpful! Highly recommended.
