The Harris Tweed Authority is in charge of ensuring Harris Tweed continued to be woven at the expected high standards. A new management team took over last year in the hope to rebuild the name of Harris Tweed. With the biggest mill Mackenzie's shut for business the future lies with Shawbost and Carloway mills. But with no work going out to the weavers we have to wonder how the authority expects Harris tweed to survive.
The authority are located down a side street 10 minutes from the town centre and are there for anyone with questions regarding Harris Tweed. The saddest thing is that now there is no-where on Lewis to buy Harris Tweed, there is one shop in Harris which sells it but we are hopeful Shwabost mill will soon open a shop and that the industry gets back to how it was just a few years ago. read more
