I couldn't find what I was looking for and asked an employee if I could place an order from the Walmart.com website. She said you can from your phone (which I had in my hand). I mentioned my data connection was weak and she said they had free WiFi. Well..Why didn't I know that?! Ok great! So she stands there with me as I get the website. Of course the site doesn't load correctly. So she trouble shoots with me. Some how I turned the Wi-Fi off after I turned it on. Got on the site, then realized, I don't know exactly what it is I was wanting. I thought it might be a Little Tike play thing...but couldn't find what I was thinking of. (I've since found it as a Little Tikes activity cube) but this employee (ugh why didn't I grab her name?..oh yes I was too busy looking at my phone trying to find the right search word!)..she kept plugging away on her phone trying to find it too. Finally I gave up because she said it wouldn't be here by tomorrow anyways. So I was just going to continue the quest at home with my daughter. I did the self checkout, which I normally never do, but it seems I haven't had a problem yet at this particular location. Very simple. As I was leaving another friendly lady wished me a great day and a thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart. Now that's how a business should be handled! Thank you Wal-Mart in DuQuoin! Your small town kindness brought a smile to my face after an eventful day. Ample parking available. Gardening center, food, pharmacy and bakery also on-site.

Schnucks is a bit more pricey for most of their other groceries. I try to shop at BOTH places, when I'm trying to eat more produce. The folks who work there are really nice, too. I feel like Kroger kinda stole their idea of peeling baby clementines and selling them in a bowl, but I think both stores have good food. They were selling salads (pre-made) at Kroger, near the front of the store but Schnucks has a "salad/ready to eat sandwich cooler" that is slightly bigger at Schnucks. It's kinda hard to "log in" for just browsing the stuff at both places, but at least the addresses are correct in the year 2026! There is a limited selection of bagged candy at Schnucks, in the aisle called "SNACKS" or something. It helps me get more healthy foods (probably) causing better health....good for fighting the cancer I'm battling, less fake sugar! And sorry, Aaliyah, but Schnucks closes at 10 pm now, just like Kroger! They seem nicer about getting you out of the store on time, rather than Kroger. A Kroger employee lady was rude to an old man with a cane/walker who made it around the store and found what he wanted. She basically told him to leave! SHE'S kind of freaky, and not in a great way. I needed to meet someone ASAP or I would've stood up for him... old dude just needed some FOOD! At Schnucks the other night, I didn't leave until 10:10pm! The self-check area seems to have nicer people at Schnucks, more kind and polite.

The store itself is decent, not great. There is a pharmacy in the back of the store, but it wasn't open either time I visited. The product selection is sufficient as it has fresh produce and meats. There is also a deli that offers hot food. Prices are good as well. If you are staying at a hotel nearby, this is very convenient and will have what you need. But if you are living in the area, you will probably want to shop around since you may not find everything you need here.

Those girls and guys are pretty enthusiastic about working there which is phenomenal, really. However, they have some pit falls. They let their food sit out for too long. In particular, their fresh produce and meats but I've also found molded breads as well. The coolers in the meat and produce sections don't work properly so I would suggest a lesser display time on those products compared to other markets for the owners. Also, attention to those areas and a better attitude towards customers returning the rotten vegetation. Some are easily identified...others are not. "It's the luck of the draw" isn't something I want to hear from my grocers...luckily, I'm well educated in food safety but for someone who isn't, this is quite dangerous.
