Savannah is a great place to visit. I did not feel unsafe anywhere. It has a great restored port area, a huge main street that is not all shuttered, lots of scattered parks, lots of shipping and railroad history. read more

Did a quick visit and really fell in love with Savannah. There are so many offerings along the main street of unique boutiques, gift shops, restaurants, etc. It was thriving with energy and people. I did see a lot of tourists. It is hard not to feel something when visiting the beautiful South with the hanging Spanish moss from the big old trees and all the historical buildings. read more

Oh Savannah, how I've missed you! I have not been here for a couple of years. This city has come a long way. Stopped by to have lunch with my mom at the Lady and Sons Restaurant downtown and noticed how this city has grown! Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia. The downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District and 22 park squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States. The city's location offers visitors access to the coastal islands and the Savannah Riverfront, both popular tourist destinations. Touristy things to do- carriage, trolley rides, ghost tours, and more! If you want to enjoy a day at the beach, head out to Tybee Island. This is the photographer's heaven if you love to photograph historical buildings, homes and even cemeteries. Definitely earned its name for hospitality and southern charm. One of my favorite cities in Georgia. read more

If you're looking for some history and small city coziness, Savannah is the place. The cobble stone streets were beautiful, but a pain in the tush to walk on. The little shops were adorable as well. There were also little open shops with handcrafted items and small knick knacks for the street browsers. If you're not into walking, then just sit and relax by the lake. Some of the historic buildings and willow trees just adds to the city's beauty. This city definitely gives off a historic vibe. The lake and bridge is a sight to look at. There is either street parking or the large parking decks nearby. I believe the street parking is free after a certain time, but do not quote me on that. read more

Dangerous? I don't know. I felt pretty safe walking around even at night through the historic district and River Street area. I loved the seafood, Southern hospitality and sweets. I only did one night here, but will be coming back for sure. Come when it's cooler like Nov. read more

Had not been down South for years and really enjoyed my stay. I have to say I really liked the people in Savannah way better than in the city of Charleston between both cities but I stayed mostly in the beach communities...and beach people are the same everywhere just looking for sand surf and then fish tacos and beer :) The level of service in Savannah at the hotels was wonderful I felt like I was visiting family. And people were not fake nice just to get a tip--unless they were fake and I was not catching on lol...I am a storyteller so I was telling stories and keeping most of the Savannites interested that I met...wonderful people all that I met. I did feel that a person had to watch themselves as if you were in a big city as far as crime though. Charleston was much safer feeling right in the narrow confines of the city. For me the beach is best no people in the off season hahahah... read more

I absolutely adore this city! So much so, I got married there! We booked Whitfield Square in the historic district for our wedding ceremony. My sister-in-law made the booking through her local discount and said the city was absolutely wonderful to work with. The police officer assigned to us (a mandatory security requirement) was just as fantastic. I would definitely recommend getting married in this city and exchanging vows beneath the moss is something I'll remember my entire life. And it's so awesome to be able to visit our wedding spot anytime we want since it's a public park (not always possible with churches and some other venues). read more

Booked a trip here for 4 days with my wife, what a huge disappointment. The city itself reminds me of a run down ghetto. The roads are horrible, the traffic is ridiculous and it looks like they just built one road beside another so you wouldn't see the bad anymore. The first day we were here there was no less than 6 of the areas finest homeless asking for money, some aggressively. Went down to the historic district the first day, one word disgusting. The stench of rotting garbage, urine and 2 day old hot grease was unbelievable. Several of the dumpsters were oozing a yellowish slime out onto the walking paths. Every place to eat is more bar than restaurant. The vehicle traffic is super crazy, do not see how more people are not injured. Did not see one police officer our entire trip doing any type of traffic enforcement. Tried to get some pictures downtown in the much heralded gardens.... The damn sprinklers came on!!!! Really, in the middle of the day the sprinklers are on. The highlights of the trip was the trolley ride, the Pirates House and the overall friendliness of the people. I basically wasted a bunch of money and vacation time coming here. Hugely disappointed. I never see myself going back here, even if the trip was free. I should have left after the first day. I have never had a more disappointing vacation. I do not see the hype around this place. read more

I recently visited, and I am anointing Savannah as my new favorite place. Let me try to put into words what I like so much. First, the people. The people we encountered here were gracious, outgoing, friendly, humorous and fun loving. The folks we met welcomed us and drew us in to our experience in this city. The people of Savannah love to have fun, and spend lots of time doing it. The historical district is a perfect size to tour by foot. The beautiful squares appear each few blocks, The city is like a slice of history that frozen in time before 1900. There are some buildings built past that time, but thankfully they are few. There are so many things to do here that you will not run out on a trip of any length. read more

They don't make em like this anymore. Really. The trees hanging over the street that make it seem like sunset all day. The mystical, mysterious parks. The humidity and the killer mosquitos. The screen doors. The old Victorian homes on Victory Drive. The huge, huge cockroaches. The country-fried food. The cobblestone riverwalk with riverboat cruises. The squares and the huge old parks. My grandmother's biscuits and red velvet cake. The lazy Sundays after church. I'm so glad I was born in a city with flavor. read more

They call it the hospitality city but there is no hospitality. I spent a week in New York City and that was a way more friendly city. Chicago, LA, Cleveland, and Miami all were millions times more hospitable. The city has some nice historic areas but they are hard to enjoy when you get the feeling no one wants you around. People give you dirty looks everywhere you go. And it's a bit ghetto. I'm not talking about race either. I was here in the 80's and it was a much more friendly and beautiful place then. Savannah is only good if you're into the party scene. That being said I'd rather experience that in a city like Miami where the people are much more friendly and welcoming. I will probably never return. read more

Such a beautiful place with beautiful people. I still have family in the area and unfortunately my family comes to S.A. more than I go there. I've always enjoyed the rich history, the river, parks, and just the general area. You really can't forget the whole atmosphere that Savannah has or the experience visiting here brings... then again, once you visit, you really don't want to ever forget! read more

This city is quite interesting. It's steeped in history and is a beautiful sight to see, from the moss laden trees to the various squares & historic homes, it's a visual delight. We took a "hop on & off" trolley tour and learned quite a lot about the town. It's a busy place and if you decide to walk around the city, be mindful of the traffic and that it does indeed stink. Riding around on the trolley we didn't notice, but the moment we hopped off we were met with the smell of garbage. As you walk around you'll smell urine as well. Homeless people are everywhere you look, and only a few "entertain" for money. Otherwise they're sleeping on benches and lurking in corners hiding and talking to themselves. The riverboat ride was very informative and a nice change of pace. Also enjoyed seeing some area plantations. read more

Love that open containers are okay here! It makes just walking around fun times. Thanks Savannah!

don't go. ghetto day and night, not about color, about attitude. if you chose to go anyway, I expect a similar review. Disappointed to say the least, spent a lot of money to stay here. Very crowded, rundown. Road the trolley and spent half the time waiting to get on a bus that was full. Save your money unless your big into history tours. read more

I have been to Savannah and Charleston and found Savannah to be the more interesting of the two. The historical area is smaller though the population is larger. People are down to earth and gracious here - I found a number of folks in Charleston very stuck up. Don't go just for the "Midnight in the Garden" stuff -- there is a lot of hostory here including not only the gorgeous homes and squares, but several museums, the very nicely restored Fort Pulaski, a histoic synagogue that looks like a Gothic church, and some very good eating. Nice to walk around but beware of high crime rate. If you are planning a visit to the Deep South and are not sure where to go, I'd put this town high on the list. read more

I want to move. If I had even one friend in Savannah before going or one friend who wanted to move with me, I would go right now! Without either of these things, I am still scheming about how I can move. Everything I love about a Southern big town/small city. read more

After reading some of the one star reviews I have to wonder if we are in the same city of Savannah they are. This is the city and as such you should expect some traffic lots of people and a city experience My wife and I spent seven days here walking around every night and felt perfectly safe. Every food experience was four or five star. Things are a little pricey but this is a city and a beautiful one at that. We love the beauty of the architecture and the squares and all within walking distance. One mistake we made was renting a car which sat parked in the hotel garage all week because we didn't need it. We came in December when the weather was perfect I understand it's very very hot in the summer. In conclusion we will be back. What a great experience. Very friendly people everywhere we went read more

I recently ordered a corsage from Pink House Florist here in Savannah, Ga, for a dear, sweet friend of mine who recently died. I cannot tell you how dissapointed I was when I picked it up. The one on their website has seven flowers in it, but the one I got had only four.To make matters worse, they put a plastic butterfly in the middle of it to cover up the fact that it only had four flowers. What a disgrace! I will never patronize them again, ever! I mean if they can't get it right for the dead, I hate to see what the living get. Sad! read more

I would not recommend visiting Savannah to anyone. It is definitely not what it is advertised to be like. we did not feel safe there at all, we even headed home early from our vacation for that reason. The only good thing about Savannah is you can go to Tybee Island. As for the "Historic District", you can see it better online. The traffic is aweful. There needs to be souvenirs that say "I Survived Savannah". You have a better chance of finding gold than finding a parking space that you can stay in for more than 2 hours. read more

I went back to Savannah in August 2017 and I realized that the part of Savannah I saw, was scary to say the least. I did not understand why people were saying that Savannah was beautiful. This time we spent a week in Savannah and I realized that you have to go out a little to see the real Savannah and it was beautiful. If you know where the Savannah Marriott is, my recommendation is to go 3-4 blocks away from that area to see the real Savannah and you will not be disappointed. Tybee Island was cute and quaint too (I'm used to the Outer Banks so there is a little comparison in my rating). read more

I traveled to Savannah and had the pleasure of meeting Judge Pirkle. He is an icon in the city and one of the most generous men I have ever known. Before moving to a new home in Brunswick, Georgia my wife & I used to live near the old Bank of America building in the 2000 block of Bull Street that was transformed into a new restaurant named the Vault. We thought it would be nice to visit our previous bank location and try the lunch menu. I asked the waiter if the crab meat in the salad was white lump meat or the dark claw meat. He immediately told me that there is no real crab meat in any of the entire menu items--that it is always fish with red food coloring. I was speechless for a moment but then decided to order a simple blu cheese salad instead. When the salad arrived it was totally absent of any cheese. I pointed that observation out to the waiter and he took it back and five minutes later the salad reappeared with a couple of dollops of the correct cheese. Please note that my wife & I had a very successful twenty-five year career in the wedding events catering business in Savannah providing the location, food, bar, etc. We will warn our Savannah friends about the Vault. For two salads, no drinks, (but a good tip to the waiter for the warning) the cost was over $33.00. read more

Great city and lot of historic places to visit. City tours on the bus is definitely a good idea if you dont have much time and cover all the important places of this city but felt it's over priced. Ghost adventures by any provider is a bummer and waste of $$ and time. Really loved the St.Vincent's Academy/ Basilica in the South district, market place and tri-cycle rides. North historic is also a must visit. With all the good things this city has to offer the worst and annoying part was the parking officials. They are constantly on a prowl looking for cars and are ready to ticket even if u miss by a second. I had the 48hr parking permit and was given a ticket while I was in my car waiting for the person infront of me to take out his car. Not at all a tourist friendly city for parking. If you want to increase tourism in Savannah, please be a tourist friendly especially with regards to parking and don't have to be so strict by ticketing if we miss the timer by a min or when we have hazardous light on and waiting for the other car to pull out so we can park. read more
