My mother, afflicted with dementia, spent the past 3 months of her life being cared for by the people at Saunders House. It was the very best care she ever had, and I can recommend them without even the slightest hesitation. To a person, from the custodians to the registered nurses, everyone was capable, kind, professional, accommodating and absolutely focused on giving my mother the very best care. For that I cannot ever be grateful enough. Saunders House is an "older" building, last decorated in the 1970s. It does not smell of potpourri nor does it have fake Chippendale furniture. Some things may be worn or dinged up. I have learned while caring for my mother that this matters less than you think The facility is clean, the dementia unit is super-secure, and they take amazing care of their people. She never once fell, never had a sore, was always clean, well dressed, her hair was always brushed nicely and they always made sure she was happy and content. They also really understand the needs of the dementia patient. For instance: At meals, they play upbeat music loudly. Why? Because they learned having a certain 'beat' helps their patients feed themselves better. They asked for preschool toys to be donated because the patients are at this cognitive level and enjoy them. They play only old movies and Andy Griffith on the TV (fun to see the residents enjoying the Andy Griffith theme by the way). They have a piano player who comes in to play old standards. We were the recipients of so many kindnesses, from the nurse who brewed coffee for us from her own personal pot she brought in for herself to the receptionist who held me so tightly and told me how sad she was that my mother was passing to the aides who kept my mother clean and talked with her animatedly, telling her what they were doing and joking with her. Don't be fooled by places that look like the Ritz. This is great care, and I would highly recommend them for anyone who has a family member in need of Alzhieimer's or Dementia care. This is a nonprofit facility, it's a skilled nursing facility, and they accept Medicaid.

This office was to look at an Achilles Tendon issue. The appointment was supposed to be 45 minutes…read more(I was late 15 minutes due to my error). All that was done were measurements and instructions on two stretching exercises. No stim, not ultrasound, nothing radical. I was asked for my copay before seeing the technician. The ankle was much worse the next day, but I thought maybe progress takes time. I waited a day for the pain to subside and the next day did the stretching again. Worse again. I cancelled the next two followup appointments. They have a clause they pointed out in their paperwork that I signed that says "I acknowledge that the practice of medicine is not an exact science and that no guarantees have been made as to the results of any procedures, treatments or examinations." It's in the 1st paragraph of 10 that you sign as the consent. I expect it's there due to the fact that they have possibly had other complaints. I was going to just let this go until I got a bill for my deductible over and above the insurance and co-pay portions. They billed insurance $306.00 for that 45 minute visit. At no time did they mention this was anything more than an office visit that a patient would expect under the co-pay rules of insurance. I feel that the service is dragged out to accomplish what looks like a thorough examination, results are not the goal, and that had I gone back for the other visits I would have been charged differently.

Because the break is severe enough to needing surgery, my mom wanted to see an orthopedic specialist asap. The provider referred her to Rothman Orthopedics located at Lankenau Medical Center, which is 1 HOUR AWAY on 3:30pm. HOWEVER, my mom did not leave urgent care until 3PM but supposedly they told my mom that as long as theres an appointment made, it will be okay. We rushed through heavy traffic. I assumed that my mother was aware of the office hours. We made it to Rothman around 4:15pm. The problem is that there were no doctors available because they closed at 4:30PM. Not even on-call. I asked the receptionist if there is anything that they can do. She could have been EMPATHETIC and COMPASSIONATE to our situation. She was so non genuine and I could tell that once its close to closing time, she is mentally done, which is not acceptable. Mind you, my mother is in so much pain holding on to her wrist. The receptionist could have at least said "go to the ED" and/or be EMPATHETIC to our situation rather than looking at us with a blank stare. Even though my mother never saw the doctor in the office, the experience with the receptionist was not acceptable. I would NOT recommend this place if you want to be treated with respect and with care.
