She has gone over and beyond to help us with all of the necessary arrangements for his cremation, delivery of his ashes to his final resting place, reaching out to the military on our behalf to get our questions answered, etc. When I finally met her in person once we were able to get down to Bluffton, I felt like I had a new friend. When I called and said I would just come pick them up myself, they magically had time to send them again. The receptionist got an attitude when I called to check on the status of my mother's death certificate WEEKS later. Over a month after her passing, I went to the health department to get a copy of it myself because at this point I lost faith they would even send me a copy. I was told the only thing that it was waiting on was the funeral home's signature!! A signature weeks later. Called them and the man in charge that answered couldn't tell me the status of it because he couldn't find it??? And told me to call back the next day. Absolutely TERRIBLE experience on top of an already terrible experience. Steer clear!!!

This…read morelocation was the center of activity on the island in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, as the chapel was in close proximity to a Militia muster house and a Masonic lodge. It is also home to the oldest existing structure on the island, the Baynard Mausoleum, which was built in 1846 by William Baynard, a wealthy Plantation owner. The cemetery contains the graves and memorials for four Revolutionary War Patriots: Isaac Baldwin, James Davant, John Stoney, and Charles Davant. Charles Davant was ambushed by a Tory militia unit, was mortally wounded, and is the only known Patriot casualty on the island. It is clearly an old and disused cemetery. Some of the headstones are quite worn and impossible to read. There is a small parking area that is accessible from the Matthews Drive ramp. This is history. I recommend watching the video from the historical society that maintains the property as it tells much more about the history of those buried / memorialized in this place. A short visit, well worth the quick stop if you are nearby.
