I can't say enough good things about this place. I hadn't been here since a field trips YEARS ago. They had their 50th anniversary so admission was cheaper which made it the perfect time to go. The history is rich and the preservation is phenomenal. Definitely check out the museum which is huge and has so many cool things. Also, I give an entire day to go through the place. There are so many things to read through and explore. Still I don't think you could see everything in one day. It's kid and accessibility friendly although definitely bring good shoes as some of the sidewalks are rocky and may be muddy if it has just rained as it did when we went. I'm so glad they had their 50th and had so many crafts to offer. Their gift shop also has super neat gifts and knickknacks made right there at the site. We will absolutely be back very soon! Culturally rich experience. Lots of great experts in each area. Train ride gave us a good lay of the land. Gift shop prices were very reasonable. Ice cream shop in the 1920's town was excellent. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Only mistake we made was not setting aside enough time to explore. It's big and there's a lot to learn and do. read more

Wow what an amazing experience to see this beautiful village. We walked in and waited in a short line to get into the village. They handed us a map and a paper of crafts being made that day. We walked around and followed the numbers on the map. We decided to walk towards the train. We stopped in a shop and ordered some ice cream: they also had a candy shop where we purchased candy as well. The train was really cool. We decided to stay on it to go back to the spot where we started. There was a lot of walking and it did get hot. We had a really good time and it was a great experience. One of the nicest century villages ever. Started out as a circle of old buildings decades ago. Now, it's four hours of enjoyable walking and seeing demonstrations...making brooms, tin items, blacksmith, weaving, spinning...this was very neat and educational. There is a 1920s era farm house and barn with a few animals, that needs a good cleaning. The church has a docent which told about the Mennonite religion. There was an area about the Plains Native Americans, too. Newer is the 1920s Main Street with "modern" shops, including a car dealership. We ate the chicken buffet at the restaurant where there was a quilt shop and others. read more

Visited for a family reunion and loved the experience available at Sauder Village. It's one-of-a-kind and if you're looking for a historical site, somewhere people love to educate and show the ways of the past, you'll really enjoy this place. I'm a lover of history and so absolutely loved this venue. We went in mid-August - it wasn't overly crowded, which is always a plus. We were lucky in that the weather was gorgeous. They've got quite a few areas within the village to explore, including a 1920s era street. But throughout the entire experience they have live demonstrators that dress up in that time period and show/tell you how things were done back then (glass blowing, broom making, yarn making, barbershop). They also have a train and a horse drawn carriage ride that you can take. Even MORE pluses? They have a small, casual to go type of eatery on site, but they also have a small bakery and restaurant (American buffet) that is right outside the village, that is a solid choice for food and doughnuts/cinnamon rolls. AND if you're looking to stay around the area, which I imagine you would since it's far from anything else, they have an inn and camping grounds! This review is for the inn. I have stayed at the inn about eight times now. I have always stayed in the older section in a queen deluxe room. I've found it to be very clean, very comfortable and a beautiful place to stay. Even the carpet always seems clean and fresh. The staff is friendly and efficient. Continental breakfast area is gorgeous. Breakfast is nice, though not as nice as it used to be. And there's lots to see in this little village. I always look forward to coming back. read more

My husband & I really enjoyed walking around the village despite the 90 degree heat. Many of the buildings had air-conditioning which was nice. Friday & Saturday were Author days-Anne of Green Gables which is one of my favorite books-so pleased to be a part of that. My favorite building to visit was where the woman was working on the loom making rugs or was it the church building where the woman played the organ while we sang "How Great Thou Art" - enjoyed them both! It was educational learning about life in the late 19th century. We spent 4 hours there & still didn't see everything we wanted to see. We definitely plan to return. I love that they have homeschool appreciation days. I'm a former homeschool mom & brought my kids here several years ago when we were homeschooling. read more

Very nice time today at Sauder Village. This place is huge! There's plenty of places to visit and learn about the early 1890's and beyond. What a hard life people lived back there growing and making all their "stuff "! The train ride was fun although there wasn't a stop at the other depot because of construction. read more

I attended a wedding held at the 1920's section of Sauder Village yesterday. I was impressed with the beauty of the facility. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate the bride, groom, and their guests. The food was excellent. There was a problem with the cake collapsing and the cake decorator was unable to come fix it. The Sauder staff did their best to put it back together and make it look presentable. Unfortunately at the end of the event there was a glitch. I was told the leftover wedding cake was thrown away, because they did not have boxes to put it in." It is really disappointing that they would do that. Something should have been able to be worked out to prevent that from happening. read more

I'm going out on a limb and giving 5-stars here, because I've never been any place that offers so much of what Sauder Village does. Arguably the quintessential living history experience in all of Fulton County. Make that Northwest Ohio. School field trips to the Village were a common occurrence, so going back as an adult added a new respect for what has been accomplished here. Two of my nieces and my token nephew went here with my mom after lunch. Because Mom works at Sauder Woodworking and gets in for free with a guest, and the two youngest also got in free, I was the only one who had to pay. Fifteen dollars may seem somewhat steep, but for what awaits behind the double doors is quite worth it. Highlights of this visit were a fantastic train ride, a carriage ride and watching my nieces and nephew become immersed in the history of the area. They have created a newer region that actually lets you walk through the past of NWO. From Native American dwellings to school houses and summer kitchens, the Village really has accomplished preserving the "story of us" One of my fondest memories, prior to this visit, was watching apple butter being made in the Fall. Over a real wood fire in a huge pot. That was the year Joshua B had his first shave, at the barber shop. I wonder if he still had the shaving cream they wrapped up for him? read more

Worlds most beautiful & peaceful campsite. The tent sites are right along a little lake. Tons of amenities, kid & dog friendly, lots of RV parking spaces, fire pits, clean & NICE restrooms & showers. Very lovely. Definitely recommend! read more

The place is a time warp as everything here is set in the early 1900's, possibly even earlier. You basically walk around and look at life without any frills. The old school barbershop, ice cream parlor, basket weaving station, shoe maker, etc... It's fun for about 13 minutes, and that might be even a bit generous. But hey, your in the middle of nowhere if you came here, so the excitement of this place might even lead to 17 minutes of pure enjoyment, followed by why the hell am I here, and can one of these horses just crap on me and run me over.... There is a huge quilt show at Sauder Village each spring, the first weekend of May. A bunch of us quilt ladies carpool over to see everything. A lot of us have quilts entered in the show. This quilt show is well worth the drive, especially if you can't make it to one of the *really* big, national quilt shows. I always get a headache from craning my neck to look up at the hundreds of quilts. They're spectacular. Some are originals, a lot are made from recognizable, favorite quilt patterns, some are antiques. A lot of art quilts. They range in size from miniatures to enormous bed quilts. There is a small class of quilts made by "professionals," the big-name instructors that we all adore. Bring your white gloves! You'll need them if you want to examine a quilt. They also hand out non-latex gloves for those who want them. Don't touch the quilts with your bare hands. You might leave hand cream or something else on granny's pride and joy. Respect all that effort. Live music from the pianist at the stage. A quilt frame is set up, in case you want to take a break from textile-ogling to be part of the quilting bee. Demonstrations from local quilt shops. A chance to vote on your favorite quilt, among all the hundreds. Hard to choose! We also stop in at the quilt shop in the quaint village. Since we've already paid to get into the quilt show we're allowed to go straight to the quilt shop & back. You can also pay a little more and look through all the shops in the village. I look forward to this trip every year. :-) Mecca for quilters and crafters. You know, those crazy people who have to have something to do with their hands. read more

Don't be thrown off when you pull up it looks small, but there is a lot to do. Start in the back in primitive area and move into the village and shops later in day. We walked around from 11 am until closing at 5pm...shops where things are made are adorable especially the hand made wood toys these are not made in china...we bought one the guy double checked it worked and when one part stuck he took to sander and then corn starched it...they are amazing and tea selection in the herb shop is outstanding and 4 dollars a cup is great for loose tea. The kids will have a blast with train ride and buggy rides (they do cost 2 bucks a person) also the little pioneers area they have toys and a play cow to milk and water thr garden.If you are a teacher you get in free. read more

I used to go here when I was a kid with my family and on school trips. I was not entirely impressed with the village, however they had a special hands on portion for the weekend that made it much better. Some aspects of the Village try to be more accurate. The Natives section makes me want to scream with all the canvas on the tents though. I would go back for a special event, but would skip the average trip. I did like that we had a groupon coupon! read more

Excellent activity for families or couples. We went with four of our kids (3, 6, 10, 13) and all we occupied. We arrived at opening (1000am) and stayed until close (330pm). We still had things that we did not get to see. The workers in their period costumes did an excellent job of each stop of telling you what you were seeing. read more

Not my cup of tea, but here are the positives: lots of roaming around space for those interested in historical facts. They have a pretty cool museum and small village. Growing up near Henry Ford Museum, this place seemed like the little brother of Greenfield Village. The one thing I will say is the hired hands in period costumes seemed to genuinely enjoy telling their stories. The village was a nice roam for about 20 minutes, but then I was immediately bored. We took a train ride which basically went around to the back campsites but they boast unlimited riding all day. Unless I was mistaken, there wasn't much to see, but my nephew loved it, because he's 4 and loves trains (they even let him blow the whistle and ring the bell after). The barns had no animals that interacted, so I came up with some creepy ghost barn stories for my nephews, which they enjoyed. With our campsite and hotel rooms, we received dinner at The Barn. I felt like I was in my ex-mother in laws kitchen. Lots of old people buffet style food, very little healthy food, and just meh flavor. I was pretty glad it was free. read more

Great place. Tons of history. I am a plumber and saw some of the first water heaters on display, so cool. Great place to see old Midwest tools and equipment. The museum of old farm equipment is amazing! I would recommend taking a detour to see it. Take the train ride with conductor Fred, your kids will enjoy the ride. read more

We love Sauder Village! It's such a great place for families, especially with younger kids. We usually do a lap around the outside edge of the farm to see animals and the Pioneer area, then hop on the train to relax for a bit, and go grab ice cream at the parlor before we check out the shops on the inner loop. If we are there during lunch time we love the barn restaurant too. Perfect day with the kids! The staff are always so friendly and helpful. It's so nice to have outdoor activities like this nearby. Membership is inexpensive and worth the price by all means. We've also camped at the campground and had a blast. read more

We took the grandkids to the village last Sunday, hoping that in the two hours until closing, we could have some fun and explore the village. Upon presentation of an advertisement from our local newspaper that showed how we could use our cell phones to show a buy one get one free admission to the village, we were told by the person at the ticket desk that we couldn't use the advertisement/coupon because it wasn't printed on paper. We didn't enter and we will never go back. read more
