Stayed here for two nights with some friends the last week of August. There were 8 of us in total, 4 adults and 2 kids ranging from age 8 to 12. We booked the two largest rooms in the house, the Lighthouse and Woodland. The total was $265.55 for the Lighthouse ($165 + $70 for the additional 2 kids + tax) nightly. Our room was ready on schedule for the 4pm check-in. It was nicely decorated with a nautical theme in a lovely blue colour motif. It had a double bed and 2 twin beds as well as a couch, and full bathroom.
Doug and Tracy are lovely hosts, warm and friendly. The breakfast food was delicious and the dishes were beautifully presented as you can see from the photos. Forgot to take pictures of the second breakfast because we were too busy eating!!
It was so convenient having water activities available right in the backyard. There are canoes, kayaks, and paddle-boards, so plenty to choose from for everyone. Just sign a waiver and off you go. There are some life jackets available but if you have your own, bring them along. There is also a campfire for guests to use but unfortunately we were rained out so wasn't able to enjoy it. The rain did not dampen our spirits though and we were able to go on a walk to Sauble Falls which is 5 minutes from the B & B. Though Sauble Falls is no Niagara, it is still quite pretty with a waterfall that reminds you of steps.
Suable beach is quite a long stretch of sand. It was much too cold and windy to go into the water because of the weirdly rainy chilly weather but the kids had fun running around the shore and because of the crappy weather, the beach was quite empty.
For other meals we ate at Sola's Grill. Their stone oven pizza is quite good. We also tried Channing Restaurant which had Chinese/Canadian dishes. There aren't a whole lot of options in terms of restaurants in Sauble but if you plan ahead, you can arrange to have dinner at the B&B for an additional fee. Some of the other guests we met during our stay have been staying at this B&B for years and have had Doug prepare their dinners. They only had high praises for the meals they've had in the past.
We enjoyed leisurely evenings in the common area where guests can lounge on the couch and and make use of the games and books they had on hand. It was a nice mini vacation from the city.
The location is convenient as we were able to check out many small towns (eg. Southhampton, Weirton, Goderich, etc.) just a short drive away.
Overall, a great trip despite the unseasonably cold weather! read more
