What makes a good firm? Doing the job in a timely manner at a fair price? Listening to clients? Knowing the community and other firms in the area? I mean, they do have to take classes like every other CPA firm to keep up with tax law?

Yes, I was looking for a specific tax preparation due to my mother's estate. I also was looking for a replacement CPA. They failed on both counts.
This is one of those cases where you literally call down the list of CPAs and when you get off the phone, you feel worse than before you talked with them.
With the reception I got, NO, I would never, never send my tax work to them. No, I would never recommend them to anyone. No, I don't ever want to speak to them again.
When you're dealing with estate taxes, maybe companies like this just don't realize it's because someone died and emotions run high. My bad for grieving for my mother or their bad for not being even a bit sensitive for their actions?
If they were the last company in town, I'd rather take penalties from the IRS than ask for their "help" on any tax matter.
