There's a lot more that they've done that I've missed, but that's just some of the ways they're doing good for all. I used to think this was like a local YMCA or children's center, but they really help individuals of all ages. In addition to childcare, they also have programs for teens and adults, and programming to help empower folks in the workforce. In addition, they have programs for after-school activities, LGBTQ youth, free English classes, and venue space for those who are looking to host for special occasions. After my first 30 mins on the horse, I have fallen in love with the riding. In addition to public lessons, they provide therapeutic riding for those in needs as well. Plus, they are non profit making organization, the lesson fees are going to be used in somewhere meaningful. Two workers came and negotiated a very fair price (so "fair" that I actually upped their compensation by the end of the day) and they committed to the entire list, which they finished despite unforeseen challenges with hardware, equipment, and really difficult installation spaces in my apartment. They had tools and were really creative about finding workarounds where necessary. My apartment is also in an old, slanted building on a high floor (walk up) and they took a ton of time to make sure that everything was both level and attractive. The two men (Miguel and Edgar) were really wonderful - I think Miguel can fix/make/install anything. They took obvious pride in heir work but also offered me a lot of comfort that a job was being well done - even better than I had expected. They were prompt, consummate professionals, and incredibly helpful. And they worked really hard, completing the entire agreed list even though it took far longer than any of us expected. I saw the sign from the sidewalk and walked down the alley to the center's entrance and climbed down its steps. As I entered, I felt like I was walking to a great secret space in New York City. And I did. :-) I found the space to be great for this event and the many programs they do. The space seems to be like 600-700 square feet. There's a large main room, a few office spaces, and a restroom. The space was super clean, and everything seemed new, even the doors and paint (the strange things that a New Yorker notices). During the event, I met the board members and some of the staff. I found them to be approachable and super friendly. They told me about their various programs. They offer tutoring and SAT help, community advocacy.

However, known problems concerning student evaluations include perceptions that are skewed, bias, an incomplete account of teaching, they do not speak to teaching effectiveness (as many of those newly arrived immigrants were improving), and are unreliable.
