The food at Sardaar can vary at times, presumably depending on whether the chef could be bothered or not. The last dish I had here was an aubergine curry which had been overcooked so badly, the aubergine was actually crispy! But generally, the food is alright.
Leaving it at that would miss the point entirely! The service here is shockingly bad. I'm not usually one to go on about service at a restaurant usually I can tolerate bad service so long as the food is of a high enough quality. Sardaar is different. When you sit down, the waiter will just shuffle over, stop and just stare at you; no 'Good afternoon, Sir, what can I get you'. Just a stony stare. He'll take notes and just move away, with a blank expression on his face you couldn't get any more gormless. The owner will just be sitting down in the corner on his laptop coughing, not showing the slightest bit of interest in his customers. Paying the waiter at the end is a joyless exercise as well you'll be extremely lucky to get a 'Thank you', a smile is an impossibility.
If you can tolerate this sort of behaviour (it gets a lot worse than I've just described) you might as well give this place a go. But as far as I'm concerned, if you are incapable of understanding the most basic rules of etiquette and politeness, then why would would I want to go to your restaurant?
It really is hard work having a meal at Sardaar even if the food is tolerable, you are sure to leave disappointed and quite possibly angry. read more
