The Saracen's Head cafe is the resident cafe for the Saint Nicolas Place complex. As is befitting to its surroundings, therefore, its a mixture of historic Tudor timber beams and shiny modern fittings, such as the slightly noisy chairs and tables. I say slightly noisy as, due to the fact that the floors are stone, metal chair legs scraped across them is a little piercing.
It's not the most comfortable looking cafe - a bit stark, with little in the way of soft furnishings, and for some reason, despite the fact that it was raining and cold outside, they had the door open, which didn't really help the whole 'not too cosy' feel. That said, the staff were really friendly and polite, and the coffee was very good. It's certainly an unusual setting for a cafe, and there's a nice community kind of feel to it - with noticeboards and flyers dotted around about various things happening in Kings Norton and around. The coffee was reasonably priced, and the food looked reasonably priced too. They don't have facilties to accept cards though, so bring your cash. read more
