When I rang to…read morecomplain about how I was treated the receptionist acted like a child refusing to answer me, put me on speaker and I could hear her footsteps, refused to give me her name, told me to "write it all down" and hung up on me mid sentence! Initially was refused when I was heavily pregnant just because my combined care was with a different medical Centre. I explained that the appointment wasn't for the baby but was for me as I was ill - too ill to make it to my usual doctor who was in Dublin City centre. I was again refused because I wasn't doing combined care with them and when I asked if I could switch to them -suddenly was told they were full. I rang back after my son was born and was told that once he had the 6 week check up I could then book in for an appointment. When I tried to book receptionist was so rude to me about me not being registered. I had to ask her to explain the process of how to register she exasperatedly told me to write an email as if I should have known this already. I was not told any of this info on how to register previously. I was made to feel like an outsider trying to get into some exclusive club rather than a mother trying to get a GP for her son.

It has taken some time, but they seem to have settled with a really good base of doctors now. I believe you need to be registered with the surgery prior to being able to see one of the doctors, so that is something to note, if you have moved into the area. I know a few years ago, they were not taking new patients but this may now have changed. There is a free hearing test clinic on-site, a pharmacy next-door and a dedicated nurse. There is also plenty of parking at the surgery or right across the road in the Tesco car-park. It means the visit to the doctors is hassle free. It is €55 for a standard appointment, which I do know is dearer than some other places.

They gave me an appointment within that day even though I wasn't a patient in the practice. I was waiting quite a while after I arrived, but I feel like that is often the case with most doctors! Since my arrival in this country I have yet to see a good example of GP. Dr. Dermot Rafter has not…read morechanged my opinion. I went to the Rafters for 3 years first to Dr Yvonne Rafter who showed absolutely no signs of any interest in my presence or of being a GP. Then to Dr Dermot Rafter. Though he was more compassionate or caring, I had a bad experience when I went in for travel vaccinations. You'd think when your GP advertises that they provide these vaccinations they would know what you need. Imagine my surprise when he started consulting a chart and then the Internet (right there in front of me!). On one of my followups he didn't even have the vaccination required! If this wasn't bad enough, the vaccinations ended up costing over 100 euro more than what was quoted in the beginning. This was the final straw for me and I have not been back since. When you're paying a premium, as I did in the Rafter office, you would expect the doctor to at least have done his homework before you arrive. For this reason, I must give a bad review.
