My late identical twin spent years trying to get answers from this company. Her health had taken a turn for the worse and she couldn't work the hours she needed to pay her payments. Ultimately, she offered up her car that Santander had financed, and they arranged an agreeable repo. However, nobody ever came to get the car. My sister should have been able to relax and enjoy her final days but instead, dealt with this- trying to have everything in order before her passing. The problem was, she couldn't reach anyone. You call the number- have to have a social security number or your account number. She had both, tried both, they had removed her from their system. Doing so made it impossible for her to call or login in online. She tried numerous emails that came back "undeliverable" and several others that if they had reached the company, never received a call back. My sister had everything taken care of prior to her passing. All but this. She even made her own funeral arrangements. It mattered most to her that she had everything taken care of - on her own. Santander doesn't care. Because if the way this company operates, she died with zero answers to this. She left the car to me. Now the car comes with damage from sitting and storage fees. It comes with the insurance payments and plate/taxes costs. None of which she could afford living on SSDI. I inherited this mess and I can't reach anyone! They still hold a lien on he vehicle and while I can't verify it YET, my sister claimed they had claimed this as a write-off on numerous occasions. There's no record of it going to another collections company. They just didn't come get it and made a mess of crap. I finally managed an email that didn't come back "undeliverable". Had to go through this stupid process to get said "secure message" just to finally get to it and read, "for your protection, we do not communicate via email. Please call this number or visit us online".... So all that work to bring me right back to square one where again, can't get access to anyone because the account number/social is no longer active. Who operates like this? A company with more negative reviews than Hitler. Are they running a criminal enterprise because failure to reach them sure as heck isn't for "your protection". I hope people learn to check who is financing their vehicles and what the reviews look like because the only way a company this poorly managed can be getting business unless the customer simply wasn't informed. Please please read of all the issues before signing your name to this crap show. Poor service, zero value in this company and if I could do a negative number of stars, I would. I financed a vehicle about 3 years ago with this bank mainly because they offered the best interest rate and payments. I was glad to take it at the time. I never once felt the need to call them that was until recently when I traded in the vehicle for a new one. I was told by the dealership at the time of signing that they would take over the loan and cover the entire amount. I good with that. I made my last payment in January so I figured I was good for another month which felt like enough time for the dealership to pay it off. Low and behold this past Thursday evening (3/12/20) I am at my job and I see a tow truck driving around the lot. I had pondered who's vehicle they were looking for. I had just made my first payment on my new vehicle so I was sure it couldn't be for me. After seeing the truck circle the lot twice I figured I'd ask him who he was looking for. To my surprise the man described to me the vehicle read off the plate number. Boy was I embarrassed when I found out it was me he was looking for his whole time. After explaining to the tow truck company that I no longer had the vehicle and the dealership who had taken it in as trade in. I then became upset because it hadn't even been a full 30 days delinquent by then. I then contacted Santander to find out the dealership hadn't payed my loan off yet and because they hadn't before the due date I was considered delinquent. The rep then offered no help at all instead went on to threaten me how it was going to hit my credit until the dealership pays off the loan. Then when I offered the dealership information instead of taking it down she tells me that I have to contact the dealership and basically deal with it myself. They obviously gave no crap about my issue and offered nothing to help resolve it. Worst customer service I ever experienced. I was upset that they wouldn't offer me a new loan when I was applying for credit at the dealership for my new vehicle. Felt like after all my on time payments for past 3 years I should've had some kind of loyalty but they were quick to tell the dealership on the phone "no" and get rid of me. Now that that's all said and done, I'm glad they didn't offer a new loan because this bank has the worst customer service and they are a "take it or leave it" company. I find that Santander's lending and credit practices to be deceptive and abusive putting individuals in high-interest auto loans that they can never pay down. In of 2012 I was put into a high-interest loan and after many payments, I was unable to keep my vehicle. Due to the interest rate I still owed a considerable amount. I have tried multiple times to get the negative information removed. Several attempts with the Transunion and Experian as well. I called multiple times over the past 5 years! Each time Santander was very challenging to deal with and refused to help me make it right. In early 2021 I spoke to a representative and made a deal to settle the debt for $1,000. He said because the debt was so old he could not provide me any paperwork confirming the deal. I found that very odd, and deceptive. I would be forced to pay the payment and trust Santander which has a history of deceptive lending practices. He sent me to his manager who kept trying to convince me but it didn't add up. I thought what if I just send the money and they don't settle the debt as agreed it's not in writing what organization would do that? I in the end decided I couldn't risk that. Fast forward to August 26, 2021 I was going for job and negative information reflected on the credit report would interfere with me getting it. Out of desperation I called and took the settlement for $1,000 although the representative could not supply me any documentation prior he kept saying the call is being recorded and the company would keep its word to settle the account. After making the payment the account is reflecting last payment as 2021 pushing the account falling off my credit to 2028! The balance just reflects going down $1,000 not settled as promised. Santander has caused me many sleepless nights, countless tears, and anxiety as the play with my life. My credit affects everything and I have to imagine laws are provided to protect me. You can't lie to individuals, put false information with wrong balances on credit reports and trick people to pay only to keep negative information on a credit report longer. RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM THEM. (would give 0 stars if possible) This place a the biggest joke on the planet. It should be illegal for them to be in business and to have control over people's finances and credit. After more years than I would like to admit, I finally paid off my vehicle and thought I was done with them. NOT!! The day BEFORE I made my final payment, the primary borrower and I called on a conference call to ensure they had the correct address on file. We gave the address we wanted everything sent to and the confirmed it. We thought every thing was good. I made the final payment on November 1st and they told me it would talk 15-20 days for a release of lien to be sent. Fair. Things need time to update. On December 5th I called because we still had not received anything. Mind you I have been receiving my statements on a monthly basis at my home address for years with no issues. I called to see what happened and come to find out they sent my release of lien to an ex who has threatened both me and my husband!! I lost my mind on them regarding my safety!! I got them to send it to the correct mailing address and email me a copy. I received the emailed copy on Friday 12/6, downloaded it, and opened it. IT WAS FOR SOMEONE ELSE'S CAR!! The only similarity on the release of lien was the state, but do you want to take a guess how many registered vehicles there are in the state of Texas? I called again on 12/7, lost my mind, and asked them to send the correct one ASAP both by email and via USPS as we are trying to by a house and need this ASAP. I received the emailed one today, 12/9, downloaded it, and opened it. FOR THAT SAME INCORRECT CAR AGAIN!! Still waiting for the right release of lien. read more

I would give less than 1 star if I could. Just paid off a boat after financing it with Santander for 17 years. Now I need the title to sell it, but there is NO WAY TO REACH ANYONE AT SANTANDER! My online account is no longer active since I paid off the loan, so my account number is not recognized when I call and the system will not allow me to continue. I have sent multiple emails over the past 4 weeks using their contact us page, and NOTHING! I even tried calling a local office (Mesa AZ - message says office has been closed) and the headquarters in TX (got recording - either enter mailbox number or you are disconnected). They have built a wall that customers cannot get through to speak with someone, anyone! I filed a complaint with the BBB yesterday and am contacting an attorney - Santander is holding the title to my boat hostage and they will regret it. read more

If I could give them negative stars I would. We made our last car loan payment and thought the car was paid off. We never missed a payment in six years. We always pay all of our bills on time. Then we found out that the last payment didn't fully pay off the loan which made no sense, but it was only about $200. I promptly paid it. However, Santander reported this as a late payment to the credit bureau hurting my near perfect credit score. I called and they said the only way to dispute the report to the credit bureau was to do so via mail. So, I did, only to get a letter stating I had to include a copy of my credit report. I did so and several weeks later they sent me the same exact form letter. This company obviously does not value its customers and has very poor customer service. Run the other way. read more

I paid the bill through their automated system, entered my account number and they ran the payment through an account that was previously used and that account has been closed. Nobody notified me, they reported 30 days late. I called as soon as I saw that and the representative told me that the mistake was on their end. She transferred me to her manager to remove the late payment remark. They wouldn't fix it. 40 days later I am still calling them daily and they say the mistake is not theirs. I am getting an attorney to get it fixed. They are awful!! read more

This is literally the worst institution to ever happen to this industry. To call it a joke would be kind. First of all, (this is partially on me) but I agreed to an auto loan for an obscene APR. What they put in the tiny print was that there is a penalty for overpaying or paying early. I have already paid the cost of the car two times over, and I'm not even halfway through the length of the loan. They lock customers out of their detailed account reports, so it was impossible to know that my principal was never going down. For a $328 a month payment, I was often paying 600, sometimes 700, even at times $1000 a month to try to get ahead. At times, the interest was surpassing the amount of the payment, therefore my loan amount was still going up! They don't leave a phone number, therefore these cowards hide behind the customer service gate keepers. They use an antiquated payment service, therefore it doesn't always properly record payments. I tried to make two consecutive payments for April and May 2019, and it did not record it correctly. It charged me a penalty for overpayment, and then recorded to all three credit bureaus a 30 day late payment for the next month. I kept disputing with all three bureaus, but they kept fighting it. I really don't see what they have to gain by fighting so hard to keep this late payment on my reports. I sent them detailed records in writing to their dispute department, and they are still fighting it. OVER A LOUSY $328 FROM 18 MONTHS AGO!!! It was their fault, not to mention they didn't even have my correct phone number on file. They called some random number to try to reach me (or at least that's what they said) never giving me a fighting chance. My credit is actually nearly perfect, which makes this one late payment so critical. If I already had a few late payments, it really wouldn't make that much of a difference, but it's the first one that my credit report really takes A huge hit for. 67 points to be exact! I don't care about their stupid penalties, I'm just paying off my car and will Report my horrible experience any chance I get. These people are complete assholes! I'm not asking them to reduce my payments, interest rate or forgive any late payment etc. I'm just asking them to remove a report that was their own fault anyway! Don't ever borrow money from these people, they are complete pricks, frauds and a rinky-dink operation at best! I can't wait to pay off the remaining $6000 and never have to deal with them again. I check my balance every day, and for such a small amount of money I see the balance with interest going up by like $100 a week! Is this even legal? Only reason they got one star is because you have to in order to do a review. Definately would get ZERO stars. I paid off my car with the amount they had listed on the statement. I called today 1/20/21 to make sure they would mail to my current address as I had moved states. I also needed to get the car out of an old name (had gotten married 7 years ago and faxed info to them) they stated they never got the fax and it was to late to change the name on the contract. Then she proceeds to tell me that I still owed another 25.20 for a late fee. WTF? When I had bought my car I specifically had asked NOT to get this company because a friend had problems with them but when I was financed the dealer never told me the name until after the contracts were signed. I should have stopped there but I really wanted that Camaro. Late fee was assessed because I had owed late fees. It wasnt assessed on the actual loan since that had been paid off already. So for 25.20 they will basically hold onto my title. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!! The first couple years I got regular statements then all of a sudden I no longer got them. Sometimes I would sometimes I would get them via email but most the time I never got one. Their website is a joke when it comes to try and figure things out with your loan. ITS BASIC. It gives your info and you can download a statement. That's about it. I better get my title in the mail soon or I will go to the BBB on them if they are even registered with them or maybe ill just go there right after I post this review. I financed a vehicle through this company over a year ago, paid for GAP on the vehicle just in case. Recently got in a accident (6/13/20) and have had nothing, but issues with the company. I have called customer service repeatedly and have received different information every time I have spoken with an agent from Santander. The company does not seem to be on the same page on their inner workings. I have resorted to writing down agent names and ID numbers due to the massive misconception of information I am getting. The company received the information needed from my car insurance for the total loss on 6/19/20 and still has not been able to do what is needed on their end to ensure the payment for the car. I have been communicating with Santander and every time I have called they have told me the story that they just received documents from my insurance company, which would take 72 hours to upload to the system before my letter of guarantee would be mailed out. I spoke with a supervisor that told me on 7/1/20 the letter would be mailed out. Now its still on hold and has not been mailed out nor faxed. I have talked to representatives that have threatened my credit score about the payment that is due on 7/3/20, knowing that I have been without my car since the 13th of the previous month. Today after my call to Santander the ordeal has once again changed, the date of total loss and the vehicle evaluation does not match. My vehicle loss date was the 13th, but the date on the evaluation says the 17th. The vehicle was evaluated the next day by the insurance that stated it wasn't a total loss and on the 16th the body shop it was towed to stated it was to much to fix resulting in a total loss. The insurance company stated that they have never had a letter of guarantee not sent out due to a date discrepancy. I am at my wits end and I am seeking legal counsel about this issue. At this rate it will be two months before the letter of guarantee gets mailed out. read more

They repoed my truck because my mom had died and i had to use everything i had to close out her life and bury her. I got behind on payments but no biggie because i always made it back. hell i just caught up any payments due to COVID when my mom had passed away quickly. i was paying them back when they repoed the car i was only behind $928. they told me that if i paid $3000 they would give me back my truck i had 3 weeks and thier cut off was 2 days before payday. Im a disabled veteran i barely make 3000 in a month. The truck was in my mothers name due to a contact problem and i was told it didnt matter who is first or second in the loan it one and the same(thats a load of crap by the way)but when the owner passes away it does matter. santander didn't feel as if i was a safe bet for loan repayment (since i was the only one making the payments for the last 2 years idk why they thought that..... but told me to either pay the 3000 or forget about getting back the truck. i accused them of not wanting to work with me to putting the price higher than i afford even pay. it was like they were purposely not wanting mr to have the truck. she said that it wasnt like they didnt want me to get back the truck but No santander didnt want to work with me at all they rather just sell the truck what they can for it and I'll get to pay the rest. since they took my $20,000 and GAVE IT AWAY FOR $10,000 why the fuck should i pay them shit? this is completely unfair wrong and a horrible company business I think they forgot to shut down this is bull crap I would have paid the loan. it was a great truck I like the truck the business like this are to be f*cking sued. they ruined the last thing i had with my mother they should be shut down......this is wrong in so many ways read more

In my 78 years I have never dealt with a firm so incompetent nor have I ever felt the need to write a review of any business. Santander's personnel lack any sense or even know the meaning of customer service. I've been with them for close to five years (shortly this relationship will be ending) and my few interactions have never been satisfactory even when requesting basic documentation or information.
