Came here for my husband's birthday dinner. It was a hot day, but the sun had gone down enough in order for us to sit outside. Location is a little off the main area, but not hard to find or get to. It is a smaller place between another Tapas/Spanish restaurant and an Indian place. There is a nice play area for kids in the middle of the square. Highly recommend any of these places to grab a drink and let your kids play around.
My husband is from Almeria, home to the best Tapas ever. So, we are pretty picky and critical when it comes to Tapas. However, with two rather positive reviews here on Yelp and on a few other sites, we thought we would give this place a go.
My husband ordered a beer and I a glass of red wine. While the beer was as beer should be, cold, my wine was more vinegar than anything else. It was so sour, I could hardly drink it. Not a good start.
The Menu is small. They have some classics, Patatas Bravas, Croquette de Pollo, and then they get a little crazy with Flatbread with Gorgonzola, apples and rocket, Duck hamburger with Pok Choy, Lamb burrito and many other... interesting combinations. While some may find the "fusion" aspect intriguing, I can say that any of these inventive combinations appealed to either of us. We actually found it hard to make a selection, but ended up with Patatas Bravas, Falafel (something new for my husband, but something I'm very familiar with) and last but not least, one of my most favorite things in the world, Croquette de Pollo.
We were most curious about the Croquette. Mostly because, they cost 2 Euro for one. We were thinking they are going to be pretty big so we only ordered two. When the food came out, I almost wondered if they got the order wrong. The "Patatas Bravas" were basically Chips/French Fries with some sort of coating on them... not exactly a batter, but... something. They were draped in two different sauces, red and white. The Red sauce was quite good. It had a bit of heat to it and I could have used a lot more of it. The white/pink sauce was blah. No flavor, no taste, no nothing. And waaaaay too much. I would have put little to no white sauce and mostly/only red. They were also heavily salted, making them nearly inedible.
Second, we have the falafel. I would say there was less chickpeas used and more red pepper than anything else. They looked ok, but all I could taste was the pepper. Even with some of their Tomato marmalade, it still tasted only of pepper. And so very dry. I had one of the six and couldn't even finish it. Luckily, my husband will eat just about anything.
Last but not least (and certainly not least expensive), the croquette. Ok, I will start off by saying these are probably the best croquette de pollo I have ever had. You could really taste the chicken. Was almost like a good home cooked chicken stew or creamy chicken soup rolled into a ball. Amazing flavor. However, the 2 Euro balls were maybe 3cm in diameter. No, I am not exaggerating. They were tiny. So, unfortunately, as good as they tasted, I can't say I'd be willing to come back and pay 2 Euro for one croquette again.
To top off the evening, our bill came to 21 Euro. We gave the server 101 Euro and received 77 Euro in return. At first I thought I miscalculated and rechecked the bill. I thought perhaps I had missed the final amount. But no, it was 21 Euro even. We had had trouble with getting the waitress"s attention most of the night and this time was no different. We explained the error, 10 minutes later she came back with the correct change. I realize that people make mistakes, however this one was a little baffling to me as it should have been easy to figure out that we only need 80 Euro even returned. And I will note that it was not at all busy. We were "early" according to Spanish standards at 8:00pm and there was maybe one other table occupied the whole time we were there.
All in all, if you like fusion and twists and strange combinations, this is your place. Service is slow and, perhaps, uses the fact that a lot of their business comes from tourists who won't complain or pay attention. But, if you are looking for something that is good, not over priced (or over salted), then I would recommend finding another location. I can't say that I will be back again. read more
