Although Santa Marcelina is listed under the "pizza" category on Yelp, there is actually a nice bakery attached to the restaurant that has a lot of different breads and desserts. I had the opportunity to come to the Santa Marcelina bakery one night following dinner, and I was not disappointed!
I came in with my friend and her mom around 9:15/9:30pm on a Thursday night. There were a few small parties seated on the restaurant side and no other customers in the bakery! Since we had a large dinner prior to coming here, we only picked up 2 small things: a orange colored coconut dessert and brigadeiros. There were so many interesting selections of cookies, candies, cakes, and pastries to choose from, so if you are more hungry then bring a few friends so you can get a few different items to share!
How it works is quite simple...simply order your items from one of the people behind the counter, and they will enter your order on a plastic device that has a bar code. They will give you your bakery items and the device. If you keep looking around the bakery and order more items, give the bakery attendant your device and they will add the costs of these additional items on the device. When you are all set, head over to the cashier and hand them your plastic device...and the total cost for your items will appear on the screen as soon as your device is scanned. Very quick and easy!
We waited until we got back to our accommodations before sampling everything. Since I'm from Hawaii, I enjoy things with coconut and found the Brazilian take on a coconut dessert very coconutty and delicious! The brigadeiros were definitely my favorite though. I love chocolate, and the brigadeiros from Santa Marcelina were very rich and soft with a strong chocolate flavor. Good thing they don't sell these in Hawaii otherwise I would probably turn into a brigadeiro myself!
There is a small parking lot that Santa Marcelina shares with a few other stores and offices in the same plaza. At night, finding parking was not an issue, but it might be a little more crowded during the day!
TL;DR - yummy brigadeiros, cool plastic devices to keep your orders, and large bakery item selection to choose from! read more
