They were both quite elderly and she had Parkinson's. They have a plastic horse outside whose main they have done up with color extensions and braids .... 2 cute dogs and an atmosphere that will overjoy the inner goth in you. I got a confirmation email stating that if I had to cancel within 24 hours I would still owe half the amount (approx £100) for missing the appointment. Fair enough - I appreciate that and would have honored it if I had to cancel at the last minute. As it turns out, I left work early and got to the salon promptly on time. I was told they didn't have my booking. I showed my confirmation email (with fee for cancellation). Then, I was told they were having problems with the automated booking system, that no one was available to do my hair - I would only be able to have either the colour done or the cut - not both. AND the service would in any case be with a junior stylist (I had booked with a senior and was willing to pay for it). Uh, no thanks. One star is for the hypocrisy of charging customers half of the cost for cancelling within 24 hours and not offering the customer any compensation when the customer took time away from work and the salon cancelled at the last minute. Bad business practice, Trevor Sorbie. You shouldn't expect to have it both ways. I'm taking my business elsewhere even though the staff in the salon seemed very nice and were very apologetic. Hence, warning - call in to the salon like it's the 1990s, don't trust the automated system. Here's an idea, why not discontinue use of the automated system until it works? I can't remember the owner's name but she was completely lovely, chatty and bright. The place was really quiet and it made a change from pretentious, clinical surroundings. The truth is, this was not the best hair cut in the world but she gave me exactly what I wanted - just a trim, nothing to wild. I've often said the same to other hairdressers but come out looking like Rod Stewart! So I was gad she listened to what I said at least. The salon is acerbic white, with big comfortable chairs and a great lighting scheme. Even better though is the fully stocked bar out back and kicking sound system that comes into its own in the evenings. Stylist and owner Michael takes control with the scissors, the decks and also the cocktail shaker as he runs a joint that is a hip salon during the day, bar and music venue at night, and art gallery when he feels like it. Admittedly, I haven't yet had a haircut from him yet, but if his hairdressing is as good as the parties he throws, then i'll definitely go. I actually went to one of Flaxon's private views, which is about as far off a stuffy Mayfair do, and more of a good excuse to have a great party. Showcasing a selection of upcoming London artists, the selection of work exhibited was contemporary and innovative, and fitted into the decor perfectly. Flaxon will also give you a 2 for 1 haircut (a haircut is about £40 depending on what you have done) if you introduce a mate of yours to their establishment. So, the next place I go to get my hair cut will be here, with a friend - although I probably won't go next door for a massage afterwards.
