Making Waves is just down the street from me and had the most reasonable prices of a few other salons that I checked, so I decided to pop in for a visit. I can't believe how expensive it is to get hair cut in London. This place offers a dry cut for £15. Fantastic. Everyone was a very friendly, and it was an incredibly nice atmosphere. We had a really good chat about what I wanted to have done with my colour and she really tried to understand me and give me advice on how to make it work. When explaining my idea for for my haircut, she listed intently, then looked through her phone, showed me a picture and said "Like this?" and just like that she nailed it. Amazing. She also was from Italy and many people that came in spoke Italian and it seemed nearly all the staff spoke Italian as well. It created a great European atmosphere and I just loved it. USEFUL UPDATE at the end of the review. 1-Very loud music and extremely poor light, making you feel like you're in a nightclub and hope that they see what they are doing (spoiler: they don't). 2-They offer manicure services but they don't even have any dedicated table for it so they just put a small cushion on the client's knees to serve as a table the whole time so you have to stay seated an hour in a very uncomfortable position. I was seated in the middle of all the hair services so every time a blow dry was done next to me I received all the hair drier's air in my face. They have a very poor choice of colours. Result: the different layers of paint very visible on my nails, missing patches and bubbles in the paint (see photos attached to the google review). I don't doubt that the beautician was skilled, nobody simply could do a decent job in such conditions. I came out of the salon with a terrible first (and last) experience. I wish they'd be honest about the service you can expect from them because once you booked and are there for the appointment you can't cancel as you'd have to pay anyway. UPDATE: After seeing my Google review the salon emailed me offering a complimentary manicure and a refund if I withdrew my review. I agreed to modify my review to mention their refund as a gesture of good will but they said I needed to entirely withdraw (not modify) my review and then they'd offer me a complimentary manicure (the refund was no longer on offer). They are neither honest nor professional. Professional people will acknowledge their fault and refund you without some sort of blackmail attached to it. There is a lovely and professional salon down the road in Battersea as a much better alternative to Paul Edmonds.

It was just a few minutes away from my hotel, but it took me at least 15 minutes to find it (I'm directionally challenged). I was a few minutes late, but they were very understanding. It's a small salon and was pretty busy on this Friday afternoon. They washed me and dried my hair relatively fast. While it wasn't as good as the blowouts I get at home, it lasted me thru the next leg of our trip in Paris. Mission accomplished!

I always looked out for KGB/ groupon deals as I only want a cut and don't want to pay £100 for a trim but after some bad experiences I thought I would give Michelle's a go as I have been past it a few times. She is so friendly and completely understood my neurosis about having my hair cut too short. When my friend cut my hair I could just say things like 'a bit choppy' or 'a bit messy' and she knew what I was getting at and so did Michelle so for the 1st time since moving to London I actually have the hair cut I wanted and couldn't explain! She is also a complete bargain! I will definitely be using her from now on.
