With Alexa, she gave me a couple small ones and a set of knitting needles on my inner arm. They are all so beautiful and wonderful! She's an amazing artist. With Jackie, she's a goddess of piercing! I had some old ear piercings I wanted to re-pierce, but she was able to taper into them, not requiring re-piercing. Awesome! Got my first big tattoo here. The staff are super friendly and nice. They take extra measures to ensure everyone is safe and healthy before coming into the building. Everything is clean and organized. My tattoo artist was Justin Love. Super friendly guy and very cool and talented. He does not rush and does a fantastic job. I got into contact with Alexa, as I seen her work on instagram and loved her skill. She was available within the week of my vacation and was very flexible with scheduling with times and days. Her tattooing and drawing are very talented, as she drew the design directly on my body and tattooed without a printed stencil. She knew exactly what I had envisioned and executed it perfectly. This female employee was saying f**ck every other word and trashing male customers. Maybe not all the employees are like the loud and annoying female with the limited vocabulary but she was so loud and unprofessional. I've thought about this a lot since I hate leaving negative reviews, but after several months of consideration I feel the information I have to share could be of value to others. I'm not a stranger to tattoos. I have a very large piece that took about 15 hours to complete on my right side, ribs, hip, and back. I have tattoos on my forearm, foot, wrist, and now knuckles. I moved to Humboldt and needed a new artist so I went to a few places until a found Tom, who seemed great at first. Our first consultation went well (I wanted the large tattoo wrapped fully around my body) and he took some large outlines of my shape and original tattoo. But after a month of trying to get a sketch from him all I got was a minor mock up that he admittedly didn't like himself, and finally after several texting bouts referred me to an artist in Arcata (whose work I had already checked out and didn't like). Fast forward several months. My dad commits suicide after years of battling Parkinson's. I wanted to get a tattoo in his honor and went several places before landing back at Sangha and met with Dalton. I had very specific elements to incorporate: squash blossoms, tomato flowers, surrounding an ouroboros with a wolf head instead of a serpent. I wanted it done within the month before I went up to his memorial in Vancouver. Dalton said we could get it done within a week or so. After not hearing from him I texted him and he apologized and said he had been busy. A friend and I decided two weeks later to get hand tatts and came in for an impromptu visit. Dalton was there and got super awkward but we talked thru it but we ended up having him draw some knuckle tatts up for me which I liked. But on the first finger something jammed in the ink and it skipped and made a spot on my finger. Ugh. Additionally, my friend who was getting the side of his hand tatted by a female artist (name unknown) had her literally say "oops" as she committed a similar error on his hand. We both now have permanent freckles. Weeks and weeks of pestering Dalton went by and he kept saying he would get me something and hadn't forgotten about me, and then never did get me anything. Haven't heard from him since and I am loathe to pop in unannounced and have it be super awkward again. I shouldn't have to constantly harangue an artist who promised repeatedly to get back to me. Super bummed at the quality of service and care for clients. Overall, really saddened but feel like I need to get this off my chest. Sorry, Sangha. :( read more

My husband and I got matching tattoos for our anniversary. Dalton was our artist. We messaged him on a Monday afternoon with our idea- taking multiple pictures for one chopped up concept. That night he sent us a sketch matching what we envisioned PERFECTLY. We asked if we could come in ASAP so we had it before our upcoming trip; he scheduled us for 11am the next day! I had an amazing experience getting a tattoo at old growth. I walked in after calling and met with Justin, who tattoo'd me. He listened to my ideas and collaborated with me on what we thought would look best. The tattoo process was easy as could be. Justin was very nice and a good conversationalist, putting me at ease during the hours of tattooing. He kept me informed on the process and checked in to make sure I was feeling okay and liking the progression. It felt less like getting a tattoo and more like being drawn on by an artist. I am so happy with my new tattoo. It's more beautiful than I could have imagined and Justin was an amazing tattoo artist. I don't like writing negative reviews but this has been bothering me for years. I booked an appointment with Randy a few years ago. I booked it 6 months in advance with a $100 deposit, I live in the Bay Area so it was a 5 hour drive to get to the shop. When I got there, Randy was not there. Everyone said "oh he's done for the day." I pulled up my PayPal to show them I had put down a deposit months in advance and even showed them texts between Randy and I setting the date and time. He then called me and said he couldn't do it that day and that he had forgot, it was a Saturday so I asked if he could do the next day since I was in town and he said "I don't usually work Sundays." Seriously? He ended up rescheduling a few months later and giving it to me for free but it wasn't free for me to have to drive all the way back up there bc of his mistake. Extremely unprofessional, especially as a known artist up there. He also had a sticker at his station that said "Life's too short for ugly girls and Jap bikes" ?? Ever consider that you'd have a client who's Japanese and might see that aka me? You can like motorcycles and not be racist about it. The stereotype of tattoo guys is that they're unprofessional dicks and that's also been my experience, this was in line with that stereotype. Disappointed bc I lived in Arcata for years and always saw his work on people and dreamed of the day I could get something from Randy Meyer, the ink is sick but the whole experience was disappointing and unprofessional. read more

I have been very impressed with this shop. The only artist there that has done work on me is Damen Tesch, his work far exceeded my expectations. I've spent probably around 18 hours in this shop. This place is amazing! I called for a same day lip piercing and they got me in an hour later. I went in and immediately I was comfortable with the relaxed yet professional setting. The piercer (I believe her name was Erika) walked me through everything throughly and was so nice! The best part of this whole experience was the fact that it was just 40 $ for everything! I will not put the shop at fault because it seems like a nice environment. Although there is one "Artist" that I WILL highly not recommend going to. His name is Dalton. He was so unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful. He was unprepared for my tattoo, that was scheduled for the past 2 months then to push my appointment 2 hours late on the day off. We walked in and told the artists what we were looking for, and they were able to help us out then and there! The shop was clean, and the service exceeded my expectations. Ewok and Vash did the ass-cheek artwork, and they did an excellent job. No pain, and they are healing exceptionally well! The tattoos themselves were not overpriced, especially considering the fact that we walked in without an appointment. Drove an hour and was turned away because the artist was "working on a cover up that was taking longer than he expected." They never made any effort to contact me to reschedule or cancel. The only available artist not only had a huge attitude about being asked to take on the appointment but wanted to charge me over twice what I was quoted. I got a tattoo done by Pirkko, on my foot which is very sensitive and weird-shaped area, but she took a ton of time to make sure the stencil fit my foot perfectly, and the tattoo came out completely gorgeous, more amazing than I even imagined it could be. She was also so sweet and friendly, whoever wrote her the one star review must have been awful to her. Way over priced. Terrible with communication skills. I asked to see what the artist drew before my appointment with a price range. The artist did not communicate at all. Called the day before for price range and it was 2 1/2 times the amount I thought. Since I have respect for people, I will not drop the artist name even though he speaks poorly of me for cancelling my appointment due to his lack of communication skills. Ink is permanent and I will not let someone I don't know well give me ink if it doesn't feel right. If only the artist could respect that. read more

I went in there to get my nipple pierced, I had called in before to get a price check and hours they were open that day.. when I got there the lady at the desk had a lot of attitude with me and was not anywhere near friendly.. and also the guy made me feel really awkward with words like "expose yourself" that's just a really big deal to make someone feel comfortable and inviting when they are about to have you take your shirt off and stab you.. I didn't go back there for my other nipple once that one healed I went to another shop and the experience was COMPLETELY different! very friendly and inviting which is the way it should be. if your looking for a tattoo shop in eureka I do not recommend this one, my mother went to an artist here for a fairy on her back she had told the guy how she had wanted the wings, they didn't turn out anything like that.. she couldn't see what he was doing on her back and didn't stop to ask her to take a look or anything. she has not gone back in for color. read more

I have had a burning (no pun intended) desire to get a tattoo of an ice cube on fire for years now. The concept is absurd but fitting to my personality. The nature of the tattoo requires a lot of abstract element and to add to the difficulty, I wanted it to be particularly small and detailed. After investigating all the tattoo outlets in Eureka, I decided to go with Old Growth. None of them appeared to be bad, but Old Growth by far had me the most sold. There artist was outwardley excited and confident by the challenge of making such a small and difficult tattoo. He properly showed me examples of his other art that had similar abstract qualities, and really pitched his interest and motivation in taking the job and doing it well. Everyone at the shop, the artist and the owner were all welcoming and informative to me as a newcomer to the tattoo world. They did a great job of communicating with me and working the sketch until it was perfect on my terms. I will be giving them my future business. read more
