The place was built in 1821 and was previously owned by US Senator Nelson B. Aldrich. It is currently a National Historic Landmark and is managed by the Rhode Island Historical Society! You can literally read all about it on Wikipedia. :) As soon as you walk through the outdoor entrance gates into the house, you get that very classy, old-timey feel. There is bright lighting, and the interior design is clearly meant to make you think about the history of the place. It's thoughtful in its design without making you feel that the place is totally antiquated. Most of our event took place outside, and it was a wonderful, fluid place to walk around and socialize. The lawns were well-groomed and lush in the middle of June. I would say we could've had more outdoor seating though! Not sure if they cater with the same companies each time, but the catering food and staff were amazing! We had a selection of pastas for dinner, along with hor d'oeuvres that kept on coming well into the night (lemongrass potstickers, a selection of hard cheeses, and goat cheese flatbread were all delicious, but bacon wrapped scallops were my favorite!). On top of that all, the servers with the catering company were AMAZING. They were so warm and friendly and happy to offer us food. At the end of our event, one of the servers even introduced us to one of the chefs so that we could thank her personally. That was such a sweet gesture! This was a perfect event for our mixer - a beautiful historic building that made us feel classy, with wonderful food and staff. I could see it being a very pretty venue for a smaller wedding or reception as well. Lastly, there was ample parking all along the surrounding side streets, making it a very accessible venue! The price for rental makes it super reasonable for family events without breaking the bank. Downstairs is perfect for baby/bridal showers, funeral collations, reunions, fundraisers and large birthday parties. Upstairs is more intimate and works for small family gatherings you don't want to have at home or even small reunions, birthdays or team events. Staff is always helpful and the organization does a lot of work for the local community so we love supporting them when we're looking to rent a space.

This is a totally free event where they light bonfires in the waterway and have live music, art installations and light shows. There were a lot of people but there was plenty of space so we didn't feel crowded. It starts around sunset and goes for hours. There are boats that travel along the waterway and tent to the fires, adding wood and making sure everything is safe and stays burning. They also offer gondola rides but you should book those in advance. It was very peaceful and romantic. It's completely outdoors so we brought our dog and many of the restaurants have outdoor seating where you can eat and enjoy the sights. There is also a street fair area adjacent to the waterway that offers food, art, jewelry,etc. We saw a glass blowing demonstration and music acts. That section was quite busy and we did feel a little crowded there. I had never really experienced anything like this before and I enjoyed it. I wish we had something like this where I am and if you're in the area and you see this event, you should definitely stop and check it out.

We knew we were going to be in the area around the time of WaterFire so we made sure to find a…read moreplace to stay and spend the night here. We had never been to anything like this or even really heard that much about it so we were interested to see what it was. WaterFire started about 30 years ago as an art installation that was meant to bring more people to the area and it definitely works. They light the braziers along the rivers, pipe beautiful music through the air and have volunteers on boats going from spot to spot, tending the flames and refilling the wood. There are tons of people there. Just walking and enjoying being outside and being together. The vibe is so relaxed and so peaceful but yet busy and exciting at the same time. It's kind of hard to describe unless you see it for yourself. We headed out around dusk when there was still light in the sky and it was a little chilly but I soon forgot about that. Words can't really express how you're just sort of drawn into the piece and beauty of this whole thing. I feel like this review can't even do it justice. We walked around for over an hour but our dog did start to get cold even though we had her in her jacket, so we headed back to where we were staying for a little while. Once it was dark and we were all warmed up, we headed out again because it was just so enjoyable to be there that we really wanted to come back. The second time we wandered through the street fair area and looked at some of the tables and street vendors. I got a really cool ring that was made out of a an old ornate spoon. There were also food vendors but everything was pretty busy so we ended up getting food on the way back to our hotel. There were families and groups of friends and couples, all just soaking in the magic and ambiance and ultimately we drifted back towards the water again because that is where the real magic is. We sat for a long time watching people float by in gondolas and watching the volunteers slowly push the boats through the canals, adding wood to the flames causing them to rise up. Everyone was friendly and in a good mood and strangers were chatting with each other. There was a real sense of community and peace. This was honestly one of the most romantic evenings I've had with my husband in a long time as well. We nuzzled noses and shared a few kisses to the music and the flame. If you are anywhere near Providence during WaterFire, don't even think about it just go. It's totally free! You don't need tickets or even to plan really. You can just enjoy the fire light and the music and being together in a beautiful place. It's absolutely unforgettable.

I really enjoyed this part and learned a lot. It was a freaking cold and windy day but the boat was comfortable. There was an open area and then thick plastic which protected you from the wind and created "inside" type section. Sadly,med didn't see any seals up close and only pops of their heads in the distance. I think called this a bay tour and explaining seal sightings might happen would manage expectations. Even if we had seen more, it doesn't see, like we could have gotten close enough to really observe them because of safety and protection regulations. I love the cause and supporting this organization and enjoy any type of boat tour. I think if you're expecting to see and photograph seals up close, you'll be disappointed. I was happy to explore and learn about Rose Island. The price was fair, especially if you only do the one hour tour. Staff was friendly and answered questions.

They also give ID vouchers for people who are in need of an ID and don't have the funds for it, they also help pay off in court finds you may have, they connect you with a caseworker to help you with different aspects of your life whether that's in need of a job, finding a doctor, sitting up appointments whatever it is that you need help with they set you up with somebody who can help or direct you on how to do something . As far as I know there are free CDL classes, free culinary classes, and free carpentry classes. There is access to transportation and they will help you set up medical rides or bus passes daily weekly or a monthly. It really is impossible to go hungry and Providence because of this place offering their hot breakfast with juice milk and even coffee. They also offer lunch between the hours of 11 and 12:00 every day. There's help for different kinds of people, do you need help mentally? They have groups for that including substance abuse, you need help getting on methadone or Suboxone or even just a simple medications such as tylenol? It will help you set up appointments with your doctors. If you don't know how to fill out any applications they help you with that as well! They have multiple people that speak different languages so there is help for everybody here. Sometimes there are research groups that compensate you. They also have a program called hands up if you come every Tuesday at 8:30 in the morning you can sign up to work twice a week for 3 weeks and make $50 each time. They also can help you get housing or some type of shelter they will connect you directly with the resources or phone numbers or people that you need to speak with if you really want help it will help you to their fullest.
