Very strange place…read more We were looking for a gymnastics place since my daughter expressed interest in returning to a gymnastics class now that things are open again. The closest ones to us are Bayshore Elite and this place, and Bayshore Elite had no spots for her age. My husband and I visited this place in person since we happened to be in San Carlos for shopping to understand their classes / signup process better, since the website didn't have a schedule of when the classes would be (of course, if the days of the week / time doesn't work for us, we can stop considering it). The facility is in downtown SC. They don't seem to let people in through the actual storefront address, so you go through this somewhat creepy alley attached to either a hotel or apartment complex and end up at their back entrance which is apparently where parents drop their kids off. I was appalled - the area is gated by a chain link fence and a badly maintained tarp, and looked like a garbage dump that I felt very leery about leaving my child at. I asked the adults in charge (coaches I guess?) who I could speak to about classes and they directed me to a grumpy woman who was very standoffish and flat out rude. She insisted that we had to sign their waiver before we could take a look at the facility (for general cleanliness, ventilation, upkeep), which was beyond odd since we were not getting on the equipment or trialing a class. Ok - I then requested a schedule so I could see if their classes even work for us. I don't know if she assumed we were suspicious people because we didn't have our child with us at the moment, but she then told us to go to the front of the building to get let in. Then, while we stood in front of the building as directed, she stood at the front desk not doing anything and proceeded to ignore us for over 10 minutes. I understand the concern for safety of children, but as a business owner, she could have also answered our question about class scheduling and with COVID still a concern, I definitely want to make sure any facility doing close contact sports is clean and has decent air quality - even before my child comes here for any evaluation. In fact, I'm curious what they were hiding by not letting us see the facility in person. Well, only because pickings are slim in the Bay Area for any child activity spots, and worse since COVID, I get home, get on their website, and grudgingly complete their waiver which asked for tons of info that I wasn't dying to give out if I didn't know whether I wanted to even engage further with this place. We didn't hear back beyond that, after they collected all our info. Hell, I also filled out the evaluation form to see if I could get her evaluated and again, didn't hear back. Anyways, rude staff, bad condition and SMALL facility, and I honestly wish the peninsula had better options closer to home.

And the last drop was when my daughter got bullied in the bathroom by her group mates. It is so sad that 5-7 years old little girls already know how to bully another kid. Administration just said that they will talk to girls. I couldn't solve with parents because they do not think that locking another girl in the bathroom is bullying. Then I said what the heck, I do not want my child to experience unkind and bullying atmosphere and left the place.

My daughter has been going to Kings Swim for since she was a baby and she's 6 years now and in…read morelevel 3. We did some parent-and-me classes with teacher Jerusha when she was about 1+ years - it was cute she got comfortable in the water. Then we stopped for a couple years life got busy. We restarted 2018 and used to take a single group class once a week - I felt like she literally never progressed there. Even after I started taking her to the ymca for practice outside lessons - still no progress. It was very frustrating. Covid-19 was a blessing in disguise for us. Kings opened for private lessons only and you had to register in 3-lesson blocks. We got teacher Juliet Lopez with whom my daughter really connected and she was doing 3 days a week private. Within months she moved from level 1A to level IB and then to level 2. Just amazing progress. No outside swimming since gyms were closed and we had no pool access. Still she progressed in her swimming. One thing I realized when that happened is that in a 30 minute group class consisting of 3 students with start/stop/transitions your kid gets a max of about 8 minutes in the water. That's really a tiny amount of time vs. a private class. However private classes are crazy expensive and Kings started phasing them out after Covid-19 restrictions eased up. Also teacher Juliet left. So then we switched to just 1 private and 1 group class - 2 classes total per week. We really liked teacher Laura I feel like my daughter progressed to level 3 with her. Sadly teacher Laura also left for family reasons. Currently we really like teacher David R. My daughter has been progressing in her swimming with him - he taught her to do somersaults like a pro and is working on getting her strokes right. She's a kid who is more interested in water-play than learning so not the easiest to teach. (Along the way we've had a couple pushy teachers. I will not malign them here - I'm sure they had good intensions. My opinion is it's better to reschedule with someone your child connects with.) Anyways - this long review is mostly to offer parents some advice on group classes from a mom who's been there. If you want your kid to progress once a week is not enough - try to do back-to-back classes, drop-ins or a private lesson can really be worth it. Also I see reviews of parents criticizing teachers for "playing" with the kids last 5 mins of time. I disagree - connections/fun are important they motivate the kids so kids are more willing to do hard things the teachers want them to do next time in class. Kings Swim itself has been pretty reliable for me. I've never felt like they were unprofessional - classes start on time, instructors are nice, and the water is warm. One thing that irritates is they've updated their terms so it feels like they're trying to nickel and dime me more (like make-ups expire in a 30 days, 48 vs. 24 hr notice for absences and everything seems to have expiration dates and fees attached). But really they don't have a lot of competition for what they provide - so perhaps it's warranted to grow their business. Thank you Kings Swim!

Coming from a gym that rotated high school students who didn't know how to lead classes half the time, teacher Nicole really showed us what a confident mature professional swim educator is actually like. Upon arrival the parking lot was convenient and they are located right off 101. I was surprised at how large the lobby/viewing area was! Basically you sit in the viewing area while your kid is in class, rather than entering the actual pool area which makes sense. You can easily see your kid through the glass. There is a decent size play area for siblings/friends to play in while classes are in session. The lesson: My daughter had a great time and Mike was a great instructor. However for me I was a bit overwhelmed about the number of classes going on at the same time. The pool is divided up in multiple small sections so it was rather loud in there with each instructor leading their own class. Also, because the kids had to take turns, I felt like my kid spent a good chunk of 30 mins waiting their turn to swim. We are exploring private lesson options, however, it looks like they have limited availability. Overall would recommend for a trial to see if it is a good fit for your family. The facilities and changing rooms were great and prices are comparable to local schools.
