Been going to this park since 2006 when it was nothing more than a cow pasture with a mowed walking…read moretrail and a cow pond. I used this park to recover from a war injury in Iraq. I appreciated this park because it was a grassroots effort. Since then the park has become more sophisticated with playgrounds, picnic shelters, restrooms and a little ones book library. One part of the park that endears me for walking are the mowed paths, some seem on purpose, others seem for maintenance. I use these paths, in combination with the main path to change directions on my walk. During my standard one hour walk, I never get bored and can change directions to avoid other walkers. Sometimes I walk my dogs there and do not want them near other dogs. When I was using trail for rehabilitation, there was a cute lady that was training for tu he Mountain to Sea trail, we trained the same time every day and I could change routes to avoid the impression that I was stalking her. The trail also has some elevation changes, but the distance between hills is small enough that you can keep your heart rate up if you speed up on downhills. Surprisingly, I have never seen anyone running here, the same qualities that make it a good walking path, would make it a good running path. There is a definitive set of rules posted, but I have never seen any enforcement during my hundred or so visits. With that said the only violations I have seen are off leash dogs. I have seen a lot of people fishing at the pond, but no one catching. I see th ed m work around the perimeter of the pond with negative results. They definitely need to look into getting the pond stocked, maybe with state help. The most amusing use of pond was by labrador who retrieved sticks quite nicely an DC had a blast doing it, although at cost of violating park rules. Overall, I would recommend park for runners, walkers, children that need some play time. I don't know what the reservation policy for picnic pavilion is, it could be a great place bbn for a birthday party as long as someone else isn't already there.

The park has a playground, picnic shelter and a large open baseball field. It is in good condition and there is a fence at the parking lot to keep people from driving into the park. Which is probably a good idea as the road stops for the park on each end and then picks back up again. Not much shade, so this would be tough on a hot and sunny day. It was 75 degrees in the late morning on Easter weekend. I saw a total of 10 people on this…read morepleasant little trail. Almost completely shaded. Many wonderful photo ops of the river and trees. Plenty of benches near the bridges. I saw or heard no wild animals, just heard birds. I saw a picture at the beginning of a happy girl holding up a good size largemouth bass, rather surprising as the river is maybe one foot deep. A few annoying flying insects otherwise a nice and quick 1.8 miles and 40 minutes to kill before the race at Rockingham. I did not research to learn what the large abandoned building is at the parking lot or the ruins that have become one with nature about 1/10 of the way into the "hike". Also what are the brick walls that are laying in the river? EDIT: I guess this was a damn for a mill many years ago.

Burlington Park (I assume named after the nearby manufacturer and large employer) has two decent…read morebaseball/softball fields, one of which has a press box and spectator areas. Both are in excellent condition. A permanent structure with restrooms and a concession area is here and it is currently available for use. In addition to the sports facilities, a playground with climbing frame and swing set is here with a soft sand base. There are benches and tables around the playground area and lots of trees for shade. Two large parking lots have enough room for people who are here for the game or the playground Not easy taking pictures when there is a teen team practicing and trying very hard to not look like a predator! Beautiful scenery and it connects to the Cape Fear trail. You do not feel like you are in Fayetteville. Nothing really wrong with Fayetteville but this park is really nice. The splash pad concrete is slippery, so no running and water shoes are a good idea. If your kids are like mine, they will go from the water to the park and back a 100 times, so be prepared for dirty kids. Have fun!

Just a thought about the 2023 4th of July festival @ Festival Park. The event was good, but... my…read moreissue is with the food trucks @ the event. There weren't nearly enough! We arrived at the venue ready to eat some good food, listen to some music and see some amazing fireworks. When we arrived at the park, we went immediately to a food truck we selected. We waited over an hour in line for our food, only to find out the vendor was out of the food we wanted. After selecting something, waiting on that, we found a spot to "set up shop." By the time we did that, the fireworks started. They only lasted about 15 minutes . Everyone stared to leave after that. And the lines at some of the food trucks were still long!! There just weren't enough food trucks & fireworks!! You guys need to do better with this experience if you expect to continue to draw crowds at this event in Fayetteville in the future.
