"Selection and Service Intertwined"- Bravo 10/10 A+…read more I am a camper who travels up to Port Austin, MI every summer, and I have ALWAYS shopped at Mayes IGA, I am greatly pleased with the market and feel it deserves much praise: "Mayes IGA Foodliner is an excellent example of what a supermarket should be. You walk in the door...your eyes suddenly focus on the variety of products available: not too overwhelming but an excellent selection of just what you need! The meats are fresh, produce clean, and dry goods ready for sale. Also, a variety of gadgets meet your eyes, great for campers (like me). Then...a smiling face greets you...makes you feel like your welcome, even if they know your "not from around here". They are knowledgeable and understand how to help you best. So you have it: Selection and Service in one- Intertwined! Shopping at this IGA actually has become a part of my camping trip that I look forward to, and that's not easy to say- looking forward to grocery shopping. I am truly pleased with this IGA and would HIGHLY recommend it to any customer- living OR VISITING Port Austin, MI. I give it an A + 10/10 Rating. Bravo Mayes IGA on another Satisfied and RETURNING Customer, Tony A! Pros: Everything Cons: Nothing

You have to expect that their prices will be higher than the big chains since they have higher costs to get items out this far to be stocked. For being a small town grocery store you can pretty much find anything you need there which is great. Everyone is very nice and they can get really busy in the summertime, so kudos to them for installing a couple self-serve checkouts for the people that have just a few items. Keep up the great work!

Thank goodness for the "new" Au Gres IGA…read more I was heartbroken when the old IGA closed several years ago. But now a new owner has brought it back to life! Remodeled, and right sized for the community; I am hopeful that we can keep it going this time around. The new deli is amazing, with great food at great prices! Selection throughout the store is decent, but not excessive. If you need it, they will most likely have it. Yes, the prices are a little higher than 20 miles North at the Tawas Wal-Mart. But, if you want a local store to be there for you, then you have to be there for it on a regular basis. So we tend to drive up once or twice a month to do a big buy at Wal Mart; and then go about every other day to the Au Gres IGA for everything we need on a daily basis. I love my local IGA.

And speaking of checking dates, if you don't like paying high prices for food that is past its sell by dates, you better pay attention to what you are buying. The staff are very nice and friendly. The prices are very high -- convenience store prices basically. As a result I'm very selective about what I buy here, very frustrating to get home , get ready to make a sandwich and discover mold. The vibe is basically like the IGA or Spartan stores used to be -- they carry Our Family brand. The best thing is their vegetable selection in summer, where you can get some good deals -- in the winter its best to only buy fresh vegetables you will use within the day or next day -- have been burned with veggies going bad quickly from here in the off season. Good deals can be found when things are on sale. Im thankful to have them close by when I need something, but I would be miserable if I had to depend on them for my main grocery store.

My future mother in law simply took a sip at the front register (before paying) then the cashier said something like you have to pay to drink that. Which makes since but he said it in a very mean way and my in law thought that he was joking at first then he continued to be mean throughout the transaction with about 6 standing there and then on the way out my in law says have a nice night and says you could be a little bit nicer to your customers then he continued to say exactly this "get the hell out of my store" repeatedly swearing us out. He said in front of many minors in our group. Then continued to stare at us walking down the street like he was watching tv. Another guy that works there is a W he kinda looks like a lumberjack but very nice and the guy that makes the food there in the back is great no doubt. But I do not recommend coming here for anything other than the food in the back.

What I loved about this place was the couple that runs it and the great subs they turn out there (I didn't try the pizza but I'm sure it's great). My Ham and Cheese was pretty ordinary looking but the bun, meat and cheese were all really tasty and fresh. I have it on good authority that the Greek Goddess sandwich was pretty killer with feta, olives and stacked meat, and the Italian sub looked great too. It's behind the marina so walking over from the slip is convenient to stock up and carry back. A great little outpost!
