This park was a park that I happened to find on Yelp while eating some lunch in Shakopee. I saw…read morepictures that an out-of-towner posted which made me want to check it out. What a nice park. I was surprised that this park was so large with everything to do there, they have trails, lake, beach, all kinds of sports fields and play sets. There is something for everyone. I took a lot of pictures because I would round a bend or come over a hill and see the park is bigger and with more to offer. This park is well kept and well marked. I can't wait to stop back to capture more photos and some sunshine. Have a great day. Keep Yelping! Enjoy the photos and maybe I will see you there. Make sure that you say HI.

This recreational park was one of my favorite places that we stopped while I was in town. There is…read moreample parking and the park was pretty empty but, it's was a cooler fall day. There is a playground that has equipment for all ages, swings, basketball courts and a skate park. There was also pavilions, arbors and a beautiful gazebo. The lake runs through this park and there was plenty of benches on the walking trails. I took the shaded trail that leads down to the lake front beach and it was absolutely gorgeous. Tree covered pathway through the forest and the crisp fall air whipping by is enough to make anyone's stress melt away. There is a map at the bottom of the trail near the lake that shows the various trails throughout the park. It does circle around no matter which outlet you take back into the main park area. Since it was a paved trail it was an easy hike and a great opportunity to take in the leaves changing colors. The beach park was small but, it did appear to have bathroom facilities and enough room to take a dip during the summer. Unfortunately it started to rain so, I didn't get to walk the trail to the front where there was a nice walking bridge.

We went here on Memorial Day morning, mainly to look at the veteran memorial. It's a beautiful park…read morewith a lot to offer - we looked at the helicopter, the memorial, walked on the path around the park, then over to the playground. There was a lot of construction on the trail, so we were a little limited, but there was still plenty to keep us busy. The memorial + the helicopter were nice. Each is at a separate spot, about 30-40 feet from each other (I'm not awesome at guesstimating this distance, but it wasn't far). Each has a sidewalk going up to it, but the memorial has another walkway after the sidewalk stops - it's made of bricks with people's names on the brick. We think the names were the people who donated to the memorial, but it didn't say anywhere, so we aren't sure. The memorial is good sized with many names on it, and new names being added (you can tell by the stone bring more freshly cut). It's sobering to be there, but good to remember. The children were thoroughly into the helicopter - asking about all the parts and how it worked. After we accomplished what we had come for, we walked a bit, then ended at the playground. It is a good size with lots to keep a 4, 6, and 8 year old busy. Perhaps we will come here again, it looked like there were some interesting walking paths, but a bit was closed while we were there.

I walked via the State Trail along the highway (which is apparently a 70 mile hike if you do the whole thing, loosely following the river!). The Visitor Center has many helpful pamphlets providing info on local activities, recreational parks, hiking trails, seasonal events, and more, including maps. The receptionist was really friendly and welcoming, and offered a couple suggestions of places to explore. There is a Veteran's Memorial and helicopter out front, plenty of picnic space with tables and lots of green grass, as well as a playground for kids to run around and enjoy. If you walk over the bridge in the back (north), you'll be reconnected with another trail. Further west there is a duck pond and a short educational trail with placards that have interesting historical info about the Shakopee area on them.
