Just kidding. Sort of. What to do? There's the aquarium in New Orleans which is wonderfully dark and cool. But if you're in the mood for something different the Louisiana Children's Discovery Center in Hammond is perfect. It's small but just the right size for kids to run around and have a blast while mom and dad get to relax and not hear "I'm boredddddd" for a few hours. Highlights include a bubble station (this is my personal favorite) where you can blow bubbles of all sizes and stand on a little circle and actually put yourself in a bubble...sounds weird but is way cool. A rock climbing wall, a stage complete with dress up items and a curtain (watch out for my little girl who thinks she is the director of every play) an ambulance with a patient and sirens!, a cow that you can milk (water comes out) and a construction zone. They also do birthday parties here and although we haven't had one here I can imagine they are quite fun. Admittance is reasonable and it's a great way to spend an afternoon.

Long review coming but totally worth the read if you want a venue that will help make wedding…read moreplanning stress free! Before heading into our tour of The Oaks in March 2023, we had an idea of wanting our wedding to be at The Oaks, but after our tour, we were dead set on having our wedding at The Oaks! The biggest selling point, aside from the beautiful oaks and outdoor set up, was all of the amenities The Oaks offered. We did not have to worry about finding a catering company, a decorator, or a day of coordinator. For the few vendors we did have to find, The Oaks provided us with a list of vendors, which helped us so much! Fast forward almost a year to the food tasting at The Oaks in January 2024. We loved being able to purchase tickets for our parents to join us. All of the food was amazing and narrowing down a menu was a little hard, but that was a good "problem" to have! In March 2024, we had our 30 day out meeting to finalize our plans. At first I was a bit overwhelmed with all of the decisions needed to be made, but Hannah was very helpful. We also had put our trust into The Oaks, so I felt they would not steer us in the wrong direction. Finally, wedding day! Again, what I felt as a perk was The Oaks providing decorations. It was one less thing we had to worry about, and the decorations were beautiful! Our day of coordinator, Caleb, and his trainee, Dominique, were amazing!! They were there every step of the way and made sure our day was beyond perfect! We cannot thank Caleb and Dominique enough for all they did for us, especially Caleb helping me bustle my dress! Now the food!! Wow, the food was better than when we did the food tasting! I also loved how The Oaks set up a table upstairs for my husband and I to eat after the ceremony before being announced into the reception. We still talk about how good the red beans and rice were! Brides, if you want to make an entrance into your reception, The Oaks is the place to do it with their beautiful staircase!! The flow of our reception went great (thank you Caleb and Dominique). Our DJ, Rusty, was amazing and even threw in a surprise for us, which everyone loved! A lot of words for me to say, in my opinion, The Oaks is hands down the best wedding venue on the Northshore! If we could rate them 10 stars, we would!!

Warning, when leaving the gift shop the step down is further than it should be. They have a sign to warn about the condition but it is not adequate to catch your attention. They should come up with a way to reduce the drop off, like a ramp and then build the side walk around it, into the parking lot. Someone will twist an ankle and fall due to the unexpected drop when leaving.

This studio has 2 separate rooms like others I have been to and they hold 2 different parties at the same time. I couldn't hear anything going on in the other room. Our teacher was Taylor and she was a lot of fun! She kept our class moving but also took time to answer questions and help out when needed. We did a VDay painting where each of us painted a canvas that is half of the painting. They meet in the middle! This was cute because while some folks had almost perfectly matched up paintings, others had sides that were more unique but still worked perfectly together! We brought in a cake to celebrate his BDay along with some wine. Food and drinks are welcome! I met the other teacher Terri and she does the paint your pet class. You send them your pet's photo and they trace it on the canvas and then you paint it. I really want to do this class! This is a fun date night or girls' (or guys!) night out!
