A beautiful little well tended memorial garden for Marines. Camp Pendleton in nearby so this seems…read moreespecially appropriate. Someone gave a lot of thought to the creation of this memorial. A large statue of a marine is positioned so that he is saluting an American flag. The park is located halfway up the hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the San Clemente pier. It is breathtaking and moving. My father was a Naval chaplain assigned to the Marines and served in the southwest Pacific campaign in WW2 under General MacArthur. This garden prompted lots of thoughts about his service. I was born in a naval hospital on a Marine base. I also grieved over the loss of a close family friend, a Marine helicopter pilot who died in a training accident at Camp Pendleton. There is accessible parking close by with a very short paved walk to the park or one can walk up a short and easy dirt trail from the San Clemente beach trail parking lot.

While on week's vacation, my husband and I visited the sacred "Marine Monument San Clemente" park,…read moreThursday, 5 December 2024 just as sunset was occuring! The park was reflecting the day's beautiful rays upon the bronze statue of USMC serviceman saluting the vast Pacific Ocean! Our visit was two-part...one to see the majesty of San Clemente Pier and two, to visit where my family of four siblings selected the final resting place and tribute for our precious dad and hero, Master Gunnery Sergeant (Retired: 1 May 1961-1 May 1991) Roberto G. Zapata...with a bronze memorial plaque...placed strategically atop the section of the Memorial Wall! Now mom and dad can say they own a small piece of Heaven on Earth, in San Clemente Pier, CA! A Marine Monument Memorial Park with million dollar view!

Tommy helped us with our Miniature Australian Shepherd puppy when no one else would! He came to…read moreour house when she was 11 weeks old (other trainers wanted to wait until she had all her puppy shots) and immediately got us off on the right foot for behavior training. He trained my husband and me as well as our puppy! So grateful. Tommy has a gift for knowing how dogs think and he shares that knowledge as part of the session. We never felt rushed to finish a lesson when he came to the house, he just dealt with our issues and reminded us to keep practicing with our dog until next time. We even decided to enroll in his weekly puppy class so that our puppy would learn to behave around other dogs. His private dog park is a god-send as we live in a condo and don't have a yard for our puppy to play in. She loved going there and we'll be back! We highly recommend Tommy. He showed us how to anticipate what our puppy was going to do before she did it and correct her misdeeds before they take place. Five stars!

He is very relatable and has a unique way of teaching that is very enjoyable and actually entertaining, all at the same time! Now that is talent! Tommy was made for this job and well worth his price. You get what you pay for. He definitely does not watch the clock and gives you more than 1 hr and does not leave until he has answered all your questions. My dog is already doing better on our walks. Tommy teaches but you have to do what he says or you have wasted your money. I signed up for 5 lessons and looking forward to the rest. I will update when we are finished.

Great hiking along the San Juan Creek., numerous trails around to explore. Heats up in the summer,…read morebut doesn't get as hot as true desert east of the divide. NO DOMESTIC PETS, service animals and horses only. That's the reason I took a star off, because I think the policy is lame. If I can't have a Dog, Cat, or Bird while camping it's ridiculous to allow a horse. 24/7 Port-A-John's located near hook-up camping. Hookup camping has a water fountain and typical water connection. Gravel pads , very close to being level in Ortega Flats. No sewer connection at sites, free dump in park on your way out. Showers currently down Jul 2025. Water hookups worked at my campsite and in the restroom I went in. Bring diatomaceous earth if you camp to keep ants away. I've seen a lot of campers prop their hoods open or place LED string lighting under their vehicles to prevent rodents from causing damage nesting. Helpful and happy staff, clean park. Gates closed at end of day use for safety. However, campers may still access the park. I like Casper's better than O'neill regional. You will lightly hear 74 traffic from Ortega flats campground. Less midnight racers on HWY 74 than in Trabuco Canyon, but it happens. The other campgrounds should be pretty quiet, they're set back in the hills pretty far. My fire pit at my site h had built in grill. Enjoy the wildlife and scenery, be grateful. Parks personnel keep it clean for us, but don't mess it up. :-)
