This was my first time to San Juan Vineyard. My husband had been before and wanted to take me back. We came to celebrate our anniversary, so the photo with the chapel was a must. We didn't need reservations, we were able to get helped and seated right away. The two hosts were helpful and friendly. They don't offer food, so you are able to bring your own. This place is always on our list when in the San Juan Islands. Set in a peaceful space facing a field, surrounded by trees, outdoor seating with heaters in the cooler months. The flights are reasonable and you basically get a free flight with the purchase of two bottles of wine. The rosé is delicious we also love the cattle point red. Staff is friendly. I should really visit more often. We are so lucky to have this winery on the island. You can pack a picnic lunch and order a bottle and sit at one of their outdoor tables. On summer Saturday nights they have live music. Grab some cheese and crackers from Kings Market and head to the winery. I love the Alpenglow Rose. Dogs are welcome too. San Juan Vineyard was beautiful and tons of sunny/shady seating options and space to roam around. They offer 5 different glass pours for $10 each, or bottles for purchase. The $10 tasting flights are on hold for now due to Covid, but the glass pours are heavy and make up for it! We tried 4 of the 5 offerings, everything but the red blend. The grapes from the two white wines are grown on the vineyard, and were super fruity, one more lychee forward and the other more guava but towards the end was a bit perfume-y. The syrah was also okay, pretty average, and a bit sweet even though all the wines are more dry. My favorite was definitely the rose, it was probably the driest of the 4, clean and light. The first woman that assisted us was really friendly and helpful. The second younger woman was super passive aggressive and didn't seem to like tourists. We didn't have cell service and I saw they had two different wifi networks, one for San Juan Vineyard and one for Guests. We asked for the password since we needed directions to our next location, but we weren't given it because "we should be on island time." So we asked for directions, and even though they were pretty straightforward, we were also offered a map that didn't even mark where we were headed to "search the old fashioned way." Look, I get it, people are here to relax and be on vacation instead of being on our screens and working, but I don't think the attitude on getting help with directions was necessarily and put a sour note to our visit. read more

We enjoyed the wine a lot but that could have been because we just finished a 45 miles bike ride. I do find it odd that we asked for the WiFi password and they said they don't have WiFi. If you don't want people to think you have WiFi rename your network. If you don't have service at your location and people are there visiting they might need directions. The girl working was fine. She didn't seem to love her job, but she wasn't mean. She just didn't go out of her way to make you feel welcome. The wine was good and the place was very very pretty. It is worth the stop. Our last stop on our self-guided tour around the island was San Juan Vineyard, and we had a wonderful visit. A friend joined us, and we sat out on the patio in the shade, enjoying the views of their beautiful property. Everyone there was very friendly and knowledgeable. We each did a tasting, and enjoyed all the wines, but ended up going home with a bottle of the Rose (crisp, dry and very good) and a bottle of the Cattle Point Red, a Bordeaux blend that we really loved (Cab Franc, Cab Sauv, Petite Verdot and Merlot). We had a lovely afternoon here. They're currently not doing tasting flights due to COVID, but our server thought that restriction would be lifted soon. You can still get wine by the glass or bottle. As our server kindly pointed out, it's a better value to get a bottle. We were able to do a little taste test to narrow down which bottle we wanted, which was nice and made it easy for us to pick out a bottle. The space is fantastic, with lots of scenic seating in the shade and the sun. Great place to bring a dog too. With all the outdoor seating, it felt totally safe, and peaceful too. Aloha, when on San Juan island, why not go wine tasting? Considering it's an island, and the red grapes used to make some of the wine is actually from WalaWala, over all the tasting was fine. Well priced drinkable wines, most will enjoy. The grounds are beautiful with a chapel and covered pavilion for events. I in-vision fun weddings here. I've been a couple times recently and had a great experience. I had to get the rose both times, and tried the Syrah this time, DELICIOUS! Under new ownership recently and it has served them well. Great customer service 8/10 (maybe from Tim... Tom) wonderful wine, and a beautiful setting. 4 of us biked from Friday harbor and it made for a great afternoon. We came just after the rain, but I noticed some yard games inside the tasting room for nice days. I believe there was about 5 estate wine options and 5-6 others. We came back and everything has changed. I felt that I had to give this a new review, since it's under new ownership. New owner, new look, the whole nine yards. The wine was limited to how many wines they had previously had. However I was not unsatisfied. I enjoyed everything I had the opportunity to taste. The ladies were nice. Beautiful little winery with really nice women in the tasting room. The only problem is a VERY rude older man who works there. He was extremely condescending and put out by any requests or questions upon our check out. I requested an extra 1 ounce pour to try another red (non members only) that was on the board for my party of two. He sternly let me know that my tasting was for four wines and NOT five, poured one ounce and would not pour another ounce for the second person in my party and said we should split the glass ( COVID? ). He reluctantly and at my request gave us another glass for me to pour my 1/2 ounce into her glass. We had told him we were buying bottles before I asked for the extra pour, so I didn't think it would be big deal. Plus I'm in the wine Industry (which was in my profile), so we usually treat each other well in these situations. We bought our wine and he asked if we wanted a bag. We said - 2 please and he said - I'll give you 1. Any way super rude dude that ruined our experience. We were treated like we were teenagers trying to get away with something instead of 50 year women. I'm so sick of rude, entitled, older, white chauvinistic men! My friends held a mini bachelorette party for me before my wedding in Friday Harbor. One of our stops was at the San Juan Vineyard, where we had tons of fun! The grounds are beautiful (although the restrooms are a little bit of a trek) with tons of outdoor seating. The inside of the tasting room had a very clean, modern aesthetic. The women working were very kind and advised us that it would be cheaper to buy bottles instead of tastings. It's $10/tasting vs. ~$20/bottle. We shared bottles of the rosé and Sangiovese. Both were light and crisp - perfect for a nice spring day. My friend bought me a little wine glass charm, which she slipped to the worker. The worker then brought our glasses out to us including mine with the charm. So fun! We sat outside on their covered patio at a table, which was perfect since we had various bachelorette games to play. The other patrons were very friendly, doling out congratulations and gifted bottles of wine. At the end, we wanted to take a few photos and the worker walked around the property with us to stake out a couple places. We seriously had such a good time and felt very welcomed! read more

The venue is nice and modern. Wine is personal...the Rose is nice but the Syrah from 2018 was flat with notes of ash. The service was not welcoming. We were their to buy but it was a challenge to let us taste first. The gentleman was flexible but the other was more focused on the procedural manual than selling wine. read more

If you're looking for a place to grab a drink and chat outdoors - I would recommend this vineyard (lots of outdoor seating). From a wine standpoint - I tasted 3 of their reds that had won some sort of award at local wine contests. I personally did not like - any of the reds that I tried (consume 2-3 bottles weekly with my wife). Biked here from Friday Harbor with friends. Loved the tasting room in the old school house. Beautiful grounds and covered deck where we enjoyed a bottle of 2021 Afterglow Rose and 2017 Syrah. Came here with our new friends, Kurt and Sarah, and we had an awesome time! We enjoyed free wine tastings, bought a bottle of the Mona vino blanco (Mona is the camel that lives on the farm across the road), and enjoyed great conversation and WINE :) We were the only group there so we got personalized attention and since Kurt and Sarah were locals we got to hear stories about life on the island. We visited San Juan Vineyard while boating through the islands. What a beautiful and relaxing property. Rachel helped us choose a bottle of wine and we sat in chairs in the grass for a couple of hours. It was a lovely surprise to learn that the owner is from Walla Walla, our hometown. Highly recommended. Pack a picnic lunch and throw down a blanket and spend the afternoon. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to the island. Wasn't really planning on stopping by until we spotted a camel across the street (we had to do a double-take). The old white schoolhouse is right at the entrance and is enough to make us top for photos. We proceeded to enter the store where they also offer 1 oz tastings for 6 wines for $5. The store carries different WA wines, wine prints, bottle stoppers, cards and stationery and everything else with wine theme. The hostess was not very friendly when we walked in (no greeting or smile) - made us feel we were not welcome and are just a bunch of "looky-loos". Well, we could have easily walked out, but we chose not to have one person ruin our fun weekend. We all did the tasting and purchased 6 bottles of wine (including "Mona" named after the camel) along with other gift items. Will we stop again? Pretty good for a small, Island vineyard. That being said, this is a small, island vineyard. The place is small and pleasant, off the sleepy (yet main) street of Roche Harbor Road. It's only open till 5pm and not on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The tasting room is in a small cottage where they sell their wines and gifts. $1/pour and it works on the honor system. The woman who poured the wine was personable and freely gave her recommendations. The wines were just okay in my opinion because they weren't that vibrant or interesting. A little too subtly and watery for me. That being said they were not pouring their Pinot Noir or their Cab Franc when I was there. I don't like whites (something with me not being a middle-aged woman in a book club), generally, but I would say I disliked theirs less than most. There is a farm across the street that has a camel. Super odd to be drinking around sleepy San Juan and spot a camel - so the Vineyard named their estate wines after her (Mona). Also, it should be noted that most of their wine (or grapes, at least) is produced in Eastern Washington and they only have a few Estate wines. Most of their wines are $19, one at $14 and one or two at $23 - I'd say that you could go to any grocery store and fine plenty of wines, at this price point, that are much more complex and powerful ("better", i guess is what I mean) I would have given this place a 3-Star rating but I really like the setting, the easy-going feel and the fact that my lady liked it. read more

If I was to rate the wine it's a 3, but if I rate the overall experience at the only winery on the Island it's a solid 4.2! My girlfriends and I LOVE vino, so naturally when we heard there was a winery on San Juan Island we had to visit it. Wine tastings were $1 each and there was a good variety on the menu. Although I was not a big fan of their wines I did enjoy the Siegerrebe, very light and crisp and would go fabulously with seafood. The owner was very hospitable and warm. She told us that they actually grow the grapes for Siegerrebe on the island, the rest are grown in E. WA. What also made our short visit an absolute blast was MONA the camel that lives across the road. She was so adorable and let us pet her and take lots of pics, although she kept trying to chew our head bands :-) If you are in Friday Harbor, I definitely recommend stopping by this winery. read more

My boyfriend and I tried several wines for $1 a taste and there was definitely more than enough for several sips considering I was driving and have get tipsy easily (slightly less than half a glass). Most of the wines sold were available for tasting the day that we went so you could try stuff before you buy. There happened to be some sale going on for certain bottles, which was nice. There were some reds discounted from their normal price to the lower tens. We picked up a $18 bottle for about $13. At 11:30am, there weren't that many people there so service was pretty good. This review is not complete, but I need to just share my experiences. Since it's off season on San Juan, most things are closed down, including the tasting room, which is only open on the weekends. However, I called the tasting room and there was a message that said feel free to leave a message or go by the tasting room and see if there is a white suburban in the front. I left a message saying that we were in town for a few days, and if I could make an appointment to make a tasting trip that would be great. I left this message on Monday morning. We left the island on Tuesday night and never received any courtesy call back. Ever. And this was a major bummer for us because it was the only vineyard on the island and Jason really wanted to go taste the wines, considering he's a winemaker and all. We wound up passing the tasting room after our excursion around the island and there were cars at the winery, probably in the cellar area, the grounds look cute as does the tasting room, but I wish they were more responsive and courteous to people who want to go for a tasting. They shouldn't advertise that they are open during the off season if they aren't willing to call their customers back. I still want to try out their wines and talk to them about their winemaking process too. Shame. Maybe if I ever get a call back or ever find myself back on the island, or try some of their wines, I'll be able to give them a better rating. read more

If not for her we would've missed SO much. The old schoolhouse is beautiful with such warm wood. Otherwise it was a fun place to visit that also carries chocolates, salts, crackers and everything was fairly priced. This is a fun tasting room. The pours are large, and more about drinking the wine then a tasting 1 oz pour which worked for other people in the tasting room who seemed surprised to see me drink through all the wines before they finished one glass. I did not find any of the wines to not be drinkable, and the balance of reds/whites was nice. I had the opportunity to visit San Juan Island a few weeks ago. One of the "Things to Do" that I found on the internet was the San Juan Vineyards. I looked it up on Yelp on saw some reviews that were not too favorable. I was determined to see for myself. Our experience was delightful. We were warmly welcomed upon entry. We agreed to the tasting of 2 white and 2 red wines. The three of us knew very little about wine and Brenna was informative and patient with our questions. The grapes for the 2 whites were grown right there at the San Juan vineyards. The varieties were Siegerrebe & Madeleine Angevine, both of which I've never heard of, but enjoyed. The reds, a Merlot and a Cabernet Sauvignon, if I remember correctly, were grapes acquired from Eastern Washington, but bottled at San Juan. The vineyard itself is quaint and well groomed. The facility is charming and worth stopping in for a visit. We favored the Siegerrebe and decided to purchase a bottle. Definitely stop for a tasting at the San Juan Vineyards, it's a pleasure. read more
