I thought I would check out this Mexican restaurant on Molalla when I was in the area. I went mid afternoon, and they were only two tables occupied. Lots of real plants. Cool decorations hanging from the ceiling and it was clean. I was greeted by a cheerful man and seated immediately. Provided me with a menu, water and my Diet Pepsi very shortly after. I ordered up the grilled Carne Asada that comes with your choice of tortillas, refried beans, Mexican rice, and a hodgepodge of guacamole, lettuce, sautéed onions/tomatoes. So this place wasn't bad, but wasn't good. The Mexican pizza though I'll definitely have to go back for a try. I didn't order it, but I had a piece and it reminded me a lot of a Taco Bell Mexican pizza which I have a craving for every now and then, so I'll definitely be back to try one, but for as the Chile Riano, it sucked it had good flavor but was nothing more than a scrambled egg wrapped around a pepper. My bride will seldom agree to Mexican food. I grew up with it and absolutely love it. That being said I was disappointed when my $22 carne asada was served. Poor quality meat, bland Mexican rice "salad" to use on my four corn tortillas-but bland as well. I didn't eat half of the meat it was like shoe leather tough, I never leave. Mexican restaurant with out my " doggy bag" but did on this occasion. No need to insult the dog and I wasn't about to eat more of it. Wife had what was called steak and fries. The meat appeared to be a range of well done to medium and dry. There is no heat in any of their salsas and I am sure most customers would prefer a bit of bite unless they are Taco Bellers. It's been almost 5 years since the last update, so it's time for another... Went in last night with a party of 5, and our server remembered me, and she remembered all of the accompaniments that I enjoy with my meal. I got the Classic #40, which is 3 carne asada tacos, beans, rice, pico de gallo, and guacamole. I also asked for a roasted chile pepper on the side, and they delivered. When the food came out, they also brought a bottle of their homemade habanero hot sauce, because they remembered that I always requested it -- and it's good stuff! They also remembered how much I like their pico, so they brought extra of that, too. The corn tortillas are fried in oil, so you can't really pick them up, but you can eat with a knife and fork. I added a helping of guac & pico to each taco, along with some of the hot sauce. The asada had good flavor from the little bit of charring, and the pico added great acidity. With the occasional scoop of rice and beans, and bite of the chile pepper, my taste buds were doing the happy dance. Great food, great service, and smiling faces. We decided to stop in for lunch. The menu was almost identical to a menu from Ixtapa. My husband and I shared a platter and it was very good. However, one needs to be careful when ordering mixed drinks. I ordered a margarita and was shocked to find out that it cost SIXTEEN DOLLARS when we received the bill. I've been here numerous times and the most recent visit included a plate full of chicken mole with beans and rice. Saying it was tasty seems like an understatement but boy, was it tasty. This is my moms favorite restaurant so daring our visit, we have been a few times. I apologize I didn't manage to take any photos, I've been caught up in enjoying family. I did get a chance to try out the 2 chicken enchiladas with green sauce, the carne Asada burrito and the deluxe chicken enchilada. All were very tasty dishes. The flavor is on point, not too salty and just the right amount of spices. Now the main star of the show here is their salsa.... I could drink this stuff!!! They do have an option of their mild or spicy, both are great, but I love the spicy. They do have a great variety of menu items, including some American dishes like fries and burgers, to please everyone's palette. They also have a "lounge" for those who who would like to take a little chance on their luck with the lottery. Alcoholic drinks, including margaritas are available. Their margaritas are delicious! The staff is pretty great and they know my mom well as a repeat customer, however there is one server that is not the most friendly and definitely makes you feel like you are 100% an inconvenience to her. Unfortunately we have had her a few times and each time she makes everyone uncomfortable with her signs, snarky remarks and near eye rolls. Just moved to Molalla and needed a good Mexican restaurant. Tried the place downtown, but after my carnitas showed up as a pile of over-sauced shoe leather stir fry, I decided to give this strip mall place a try. It's good! They have REAL carnitas. Slow cooked, unsauced, shredded PORK carnitas. Not chicken, not beef, PORK. Not sauced, not stir fried. Juicy, off the bone pork. It's GOLD. They also have this soup called "Molcajete" that's basically a meat, vegetable, and cheese soup. It's AMAZING, just like mom used to make. The salsa is pretty great, too. Chunky, not too spicy, seems house made. Been here three times so far, always in the evening and it doesn't seem to be all that busy. Can't speak for the lunch crowd, if there is one. Reasonably large place with a bar area. Have not tried the margaritas yet. My partner and I have tried 5 different dishes between us, and they've all been good. I'm really looking forward to trying more, but I might not be able to escape from the carnitas and Molcajete. :P read more

This is an ok Mexican restaurant with great queso and house hot sauce! The portion of queso has been cut though, and I got a veggie Al a carte burrito and it was 17$ !!! All the other Al a cart burritos were 9$ but I order one without meat and it is crazy expensive . Then when I asked , the manager ( who was our waitress ) she said I will pay for the rice and beans regardless if I want them or not, or they could have substituted a salad . Nobody told me that ??? Located within a small strip mall beside Safeway. Restaurant is clean and seating is roomy. Service is friendly and the food came out fast. Quality of food is average at best and the menu would fair well with pictures showing what many of the dishes look like. Prices are average as well and not overly high for what you get. I can't believe we have lived here for almost 3 year and just stopped in here. We were very happy with our to go order. We had crab and shrimp enchiladas. Consistently good Mexican food. I always order the #13, the enchilada combo. I love the shredded beef at this restaurant; it's well seasoned and tender, and as far as I can tell, they don't use any filled with it. When I order shredded beef, I often find that it is cut with some sort of filler, usually baked potato, but not here. I order a regular margarita on the rocks, and I find it to be pretty strong. Knocked down a star as they charged us for pop refill without telling us it was an extra cost. They asked us if we wanted more soda and then charged for it. Had 2 ala carte enchiladas that were very good. The chips and salsa were fresh and extremely tasty. The service could not have been better. Water was refilled before being empty. We came here after having a bad experience trying to get food at a different restaurant and I think that we did better than we would have at the other restaurant. The food here was excellent. And the staff was very hard working and attentive. We had to sit outside because of Covid restrictions but the heaters inside their tent kept it pretty comfortable in there. Usually Mexican restaurants give you large portions therefore you don't mind paying higher prices, but this place gives you small portions and huge price. Especially their fajitas! If your looking for pork tacos, get the Chili Verde with their homemade, thick, steaming hot corn tortillas. That was the best dish I have had there so far. The chunks of pork weren't fatty and fell apart like it should. Salsa was delish too. I will have to go back to buy some corn tortillas because safeway and the bakery in town don't have anything that good. Worst carne asada and service that I've ever had! When I sent the meat back for being too dry to eat I was lectured by the manager that I should have specified how I wanted my carne asada cooked.... Really?!? It's a thin slice of meat! I want it cooked how every other Mexican restaurant cooks it! It's hard enough for me to feel comfortable sending something back and the last thing that I want is to feel embarrassed in front of everyone else in the restaurant. You need new cooks, a new manager and more serving staff. I will never be back. By the way, 2 other tables complained about their food and was also given a VERY hard time.
